After fixing the alternator, voltage regulator and primary shaft assembly,
filling it with appropriate amount of transmission fluid
etc, I have strange noise from the sprocket/shaft.
I'm able to change gears, but bike doesn't go - it goes,
actually, about 5-10m (15-30 ft), and then I loose
driving power - the gear stays on, but bike doesn't go
anymore. My first guess was clutch string, so I checked
it. Then I checked twice loose on primary chain
with the screw and the cover's hole, as described in manual, that's not it.
I'm going to disassemble rider's left side of the engine again, to see what's going on.
My 3rd guess is loosed mainshaft nut, the left-twisted one.
I tightened sprocket nut as described to 190-210 ft-lbs
(257.6-284.7 Nm). Then I blocked the sprocket with
the blocker (opposite way to disassembly, shown
on picture two), and tried to tighten mainshaft nut. I
tighted it as hard as I could, but the gear hub moves,
moves the sprocket, and the locking does not hold.
I'm afraid I didn't tight it enough, to 70-80
ft-lbs (94.9-108.5 Nm), both damn things move while
tightening. Uhm, yes, I took care about screw aligning
tabs, and the ring etc.
How do you people tighten mainshaft hub nut ? (#1 on
first picture). I'm going to try block it on the top,

with longer blocker, but I'm not sure it's a good idea.
I've seen such tools like these on some sportster site,
but they're, you know.. legendary, uhm ;-)

Another way is to use some impact, pneumatic tool, etc.
Any hints? I hope I didn't break some sprocket's teeth..
well, I'll see when I disassembly it again.

DT
PS. I'm not able to describe the sound exactly, it's
my english, but it doesn't sound like breaking something,
but rather, hm, one element sliding on another (but
lower). Gears shift without surprises, but when I
loose clutch handle and bike starts to move, I hear
this sound once or twice, and then engine works normally,
RPMs grow, but bike doesn't go. I don't think it's
something with friction plates, they're quite new,
I've already had problem with it, and they were replaced
by qualified mechanic.
