View Full Version : Anyone interested in a XB9/12 Turbo Kit?

Hey guys, I just wanted to count the hands of anyone intersted in a turbo setup for their XB9/12 Buells. I have been racing and boosting cars for about 10 years now, and wanted to see what the market would be for something like this. It will be designed to work with the stock motor, but deffinatley upgradable for the guys with big bores, forged pistons, etc. The rough basis of the kit will be a new turbo, with optimal efficiency for the Buell, Stainless tubular manifold, stainless downpipe/exhaust, air/water or air/air intercooler, aluminum intercooler piping, larger injectors, oil fittings, and misc parts to be determined. It will be professional quality worthy of the Buell. About how much would you guys be willing to pay (be realistic here) so I know how to budget the system. Keep in mind this has the potential to double the power output of the motor. Below is my own race car to show the quality that will be put into it. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

you might want to think about providing some ECU tuning as well.
Something GT15 size probably.
tricky part is getting the exhaust pipes the right length to time the pulses 180 degrees apart at the turbine inlet. otherwise you'll shock load the crap out of the hotside and the bearing life will be really really short.

Yeah I am going to have to look into an EMS for sure. A small compressor which flows about 15-20lb/min would be ideal. The manifold will deffinatley be equal length.

Interested depending on price

Yeah I will have to gather up pricing info this weekend to get a better idea, but I will try to keep it as affordable as possible.

:D[up] boost, is next on my list and if I could just buy a bolt on setup I would be willing to spend the extra to save all the time.
Basically everything is price dependent

I try not to think about it
mainly because I want it so bad.
if it was large enough gains for decent money I would do it.
big bore for instance is too much money for too little gain IMO
with a better price to HP ratio I too would be in

Im interested. I would want to see the reliability after a few months of use though. If it is a good set up and of high quality like you say it will be, I could see a couple grand maybe. I dont want to ride around on a grenade though.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I will go through with it, so I will fab up a proto here in the future and I will update along the way.

Glade you also may want to get a hold of xopti. From my understanding there is still a block in the ecm that will work with a turbo setup.

About the ECU I think I came across something about what you were saying, and that would be awesome if the stock ecu would work, would deffinatley keep the cost down.

would a person also have to install low compression pistons or heads with a turbo?

i'd be intersted depending on price.

The stock internals should be fine, just depends on how much power you want. Most engines can make %50 more whp on the stock internals safe with proper tuning.

Where do you plan on finding larger injectors? I know with my bolt on XB12R I am maxing out my injectors now at high rpm WOT. I have heard of switching to a V-Rod intake setup but I haven't found any higher flowing injectors for our XB's.

I've read that the injectors from a Cooper mini s will work, the ECM was originally designed to control boost and waist gate on the XB. The bike was originally designed to us a turbo from the factory. Buell had full emissions and durability completed until Harley killed it. At 9lbs of boost buell was getting around 135hp and the wheel.

Worse come to worse, some injector adapters would allow for more standard sizes to be retrofitted. From what it looks like the stock ecu will be able to run boost, and if it doesn't control timing a btm might work out alright for low boost on stock motors. Once I start peicing stuff together I will get he whole tuning situation knocked out.

i would be extremely interested if it was good quality bolt on kit.with injectors, fuel pump and tunning.electronicly controlled wastegate would be worth the extra money also.:)[up][up]

I want one too, but funds are very limited. I'd prefer a very small turbo kit for very cheap over a big hp, expensive one.

Cheap, reliable, high power.
Choose 2 and you WON'T get the 3rd.
