View Full Version : cool member challenge idea

I just got an email from a truck forum that im a member of telling about a cool member challege.
----------------------------------------------------
They came up with an idea of trying to pass an object from one end of the country to the other by passing it off from member to member. The forum owner donated a forum banner he had and a Sharpie so people could sign it. The banner was mailed to a member in MA where it was signed and photographed at the Atlantic Ocean. It has since been passed on and is currently in the north-west part of New York.
Members are trying to work together to keep the banner moving west. There is no set route. It's up to the members to decide which route it takes. They just want to get it to the Pacific Ocean before summer is over.
-------------------------------------------------
this sounds like a cool thing to do for the XB members.... its like the picture challenge to get people out riding, but also to allow members to meet up and meet each other!
just thought it was a cool idea and wanted to pass it along.

Maybe it should start at the Southern most point of the US (Key West) and end at maybe EBR Facility.;)
Perhaps two of them going at the same time... East to West, South to North.

It needs to be a buell item, we need a med size buell buell flag, and it can continue to travil from coast to coast as many times as there are members. Also each member who transports the item needs to get a pic of it in their city or town. I can get a pic with a item at the Saint Louis Arch, etc. Each person only hands off one time and keeps it going for a year. That way many more people can get involved. Im in. We need to find a flag or Banner to be donated from a harley Dealer ship or some thing. Harley atleast owes us that for stomping on our hearts. Any ideas to where and what to use for the item?? Tihs post will turn out to be a series of pics of us our cities and towns and our Buell motorcycles of course. The very first run can start the new post. we can call it the BUELL FREEDOM RUN!! Now we need a flag or banner!!

Okay, 16 states so far plus Canada.
My recommendation is this:
outgoing leg, from NY - Touch Canada - midwest(hitting EBR)/northern states down to monterrey for the race.
incoming leg, from Monterrey - southwest to florida - ending at EBR
If July 25th is next time they will be at Laguna Seca we gotta get that flag to NY.

wow- alot of people interested, this sounds like it should be fun. Yes, got it from the ranger station, haha.
Like everyone said, where to start and where to end. I was also thinking, instead of east coast to west coast, maybe we could do a 48 state thing.
It would be cool to get a little website running with pictures and a location of the item so it can be tracked.
I dont really know if i have the time to kick this off, but i would like to be part of it.
Who wants to be the lead? A buell flag sounds like a good idea cause it can be signed by all the riders and also easy to carry on a bike.

I'm in eastern Nebraska (Omaha) and can get it to/from certain places in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa pretty easy. I like the idea of the flag/banner getting around and signing it and/or taking pics around our hometowns/current residence.
Another thing this thread reminded me of is a thing they have going on a GM truck forum that I'm on. Could be another fun thing to spread something around the country and get pics with our Buells and other members. They have an ALF doll that they ship or deliver to each other and put it funny, disturbing, and provocative situations. Buell Porn thread comes to mind really quick with this or even with the flag/banner! We could adopt a mascot or something to send around. People put things in the shipping box that he had aquired from his journeys around the country. Just an idea, take it or leave it. ;) The thread ended up in the Work Warning section and is pretty epic! [up]

Well I can start it in Monterey with my buell flag and go East. Like I said, I could also have a banner made. I also have a laminated poster that is currently framed. We could roll it and send it around in backpacks, then re-frame it. I think that would be the most classy, but whatever you guys want.
I'm up for it. Charleston, South Carolina. Are we mailing it or doing a hand off. Mailing would be easier, but we could do a hand off and taking pics of the exchange.
03Firebolt9R
07-15-2010, 08:10 AM
I agree with Dave. Starting in Monterey would be best since BuellXB (Jeremy) is in Indy. The flag/poster/or whatever could end with him there.
I think mailing it takes away from the whole idea of the challenge...I say hand it off.

I love this idea too guys but being on the west coast of Canada (on an island) I am pretty much as west as west can be..(aside from Alaskan Buellers)
with Phazernut being on the east coast in Newfoundland...(an island also)
I don't know how we can particapate in this cause I am sure alot of Canadian Buellers would like too..
My idea is too get something going across Canada that will also end up in Jeremys hands...
I can get it too Vancouver via a ride on the ferry from Vancouver Island and meet some of our Buellers over there and pass it off....
my main concern is the prairies...(wide open, straight...lotsa wheat fields, not alot of people) not sure how many Buellers we have out there [confused]
I know once we get into Onterrible we can pass it off to several members who wioll make sure it hits Quebec and continues east [smirk]
Input, ideas?

Buddha,
I agree, I sure that there are quite a few Canadians who would like to take part...
Two ideas:
1. Take the item from coast to coast across the US and then back in the opposite direction across Canada.
2. We try to do a separate run across Canada. I am not sure that I would suggest a "race" but maybe?? Let's see what the map looks like.

I like your banner idea, let us not let this die. Perhaps the banner starts at Laguna Seca with the race team and just starts heading around the country (and Canada [smirk] ). No deadlines, just a grand tour..ending or passing through EBR.

going by member locations on the map this is going to be very difficult to do a hand off the entire way.theres large gaps from ca to az,dallas to tenn or ala.the whole east looks good until minn.then more large gaps going back west.also we need a senior member or two to get the ball rolling and plan a rough route. i have six dicast top fuel bikes larger than 1/24 scale.ets value 200.00 each.i would be willing to donate to members filling the largest gaps.

Let's pitch in some money and have a Buell Appreciation Banner made and ride it around the U.S., Signing in along the way with name, date, location. When it looks like its been around to everyone, final destination can be EBR HQ. Maybe have one for Australia, Europe, Africa, etc.

How about a calendar?
snrusnak
11-15-2012, 06:07 AM
I think something that symbolizes what makes a buell a buell, send it around, people sign it and take pictures, then send it to EBR(great idea). Would be cool if it was something they could put on their desk or hang on their wall or something. A calendar is good but after 1 year it's taken down. JMO.
I would say make a clock from a front rotor like a member did, they could hang that, and small(not sure a lot of people could sign it).
Just throwing out ideas...

what we should do it start 2 items, one in maine, one in FL....
get these 2 items to CA and then back, but the item that started in maine, ends in Fl and Fl in maine!
Each person that gets it signs/ date/ location / user name
items should only travel by buell.... and maybe hold off till the spring, gives the entire summer to travel there and back!
snrusnak
11-15-2012, 08:13 AM
I like pur pony's idea. I think we need to decide on the two items, and I think it'd be cool to send them to EBR. I also like waiting until spring.

I bumped this one to see what everyone thought.can everyone thats willing to participate post where they live?it makes the hand off easier. I like the flag idea because it allows everyone to sign it as it moves along with the destination being EBR.Everyone posts a picture at the hand off.i can start in California and posibly come up with the funds for a buell xb flag with permission of extremlow.if not I have a buell flag and everyone can sign it in white paint marker. It would take a while to do this and the weather in California is good so maybe it can stop and go depending on the weather.

Just finished making a map with all the Buellers who expressed interest in being a part of this. I put down everyone I could. If I put you in the wrong spot feel free to move yourself, and if you would like to join you can add yourself. Its a work in progress but a good step in the right direction. I agree start this in the spring.
You could start it in the south, take it across the southern states. Then work it north. We can ride pretty much year round down here. This s a huge undertaking that will take quite a bit of time to get it around the country.
When it kicks off, we should start a new thread, minus the first seven pages of this one. Each hand off should have a picture taken of all involved. Post the picture so everyone can follow the progress!
Great idea, will be tough to pull off!

I know some more buellers on the west coast of FL and north FL, I don't think they are on buellxb though. Hate to cause any conflicts but why not open this up to any bueller, and not lock it to buellxb? We could probably move a flag from the FL keys to the panhandle in a week with the number of buellers I we have here. But half of them are not on the forum or are on other forums.

I can see it taking more than a year to do, but then again, I'm cool with being proved wrong on that one.
Might be cool to get group photos along the way.
Also, as has been mentioned, there are a lot of folks who own Buells but the majority aren't on forums or are on other forums. Hopefully this will encourage a better unity among the Buell crowd.
snrusnak
11-16-2012, 05:18 AM
My thoughts are to have any one riding a buell be a flag carrier(assuming they can be trusted) and at every hand off a picture must be taken. That person can then give the picture to someone who can be in charge of putting all the pictures together in order for when we send the flags to EBR at the end. Maybe make it like a timeline and road map out of the pictures and put it on a cd to give with the flags, to show where all the flag had traveled.

Do we want to use the blue and yellow or red white and blue?

My vote is red white and blue if this more about Buell than the website. But if its more about BuellXB.com, then might as well match the banner colors for the forum association.

Personally I think this is more about buell than the site and I like the r/w/b.

should be blue and yellow...more in line with Buell and ties the forum to it, the other more symbolic of being American pride with the color scheme

Update.Met with Dave last night. He is going to try to get bigger flags. We have a total of 3 flags 2'x3' in red white and blue.I kept the price under $200 cause my wife would kill me if i spent more.so if anyone besides Anrkizm wants to donate please message me.Squid mentioned being able to get the west coast flag up to Washington state or even Oregon but any type action on the buellxb forum comes up bust with those 2 states. Still a work in progress so anyone chime in if you have suggestions.thanks.

I'm at a 7-10 split with the flags. I like both and can see good reason to do either color combination. I've been wondering what the banner/flag would look like if the letters were in caps... BUELLXB.com... ?
Pretty cool to see my name on a map, too.
Really hoping this gains traction and gets organized. [up]

Offer up some donations guys! We all say we want to do this so let's not make one person front all the cost. Even if it's $5 it'll be a big help. If everyone on the map pitches in $5 it'd probably be paid for...

So I'm making the order for wanta6th2 and I need to get it order in. If any of you guys want to donate so that wanta6th2 doesn't have it all coming out of his pocket, you can send paypal to dave.jhnsn at yahoo.com (not linked to prevent spam). He has given me the cash, so the more you can send, the more he'll get back. Also, hopefully enough can donate and I'll get the larger flag size. Right now it's 3'x2'.
