Sidi boot questions

Hello all,
I am trying to figure out what boots to buy. These will be my first street boots. I am looking at the Sidi Streetburner and the Sidi Vertigo. I don't race, but play pretty good quite often out riding.

I don't know if I really need a full boot (Vertigo) but I also am not sure about using the Streetburner as it is a little low in the back. I want to make sure that the boot I get is comfortable to walk and stand in.

I have searched "boots" and think I have looked at all the considerable posts on boots, yet have not been able to determine how figure out what level of boot to buy.

How are the Superstreet to walk around in?

Any full boot that you get is not gonna be really comfortable to walk and stand in... They are not bad but they are not made to walk in the are made to be worn on the bike... Oh and if it is hot out and you wear a full boot prepare yourself to sweat a lot... I know from experience

Thanks for that info JJ. I am not concerned with heat up here in Alaska, but comfort is a concern.

I just got a pair of the previous model of vertigo and they're no good for walking in. They're fine if I want to go in a store or to get something to eat, but if I need to actually walk around my ankles will get rubbed raw. I was surprised because my last pair of boots were also sidis, I don't remember what model they were, I bought them around 2003, they were about $200 and were water proof, and looked similar to the vertigos, just with less protection, and they were very comfortable. I could wear them all day and walk around as much as I wanted and not give it a second thought. I would just recommend trying on whatever you're looking at and take a lap or two around the dealership.

Some of the short boots look convenient, but I'm always too worried about protection to think about wearing them.

I have Vertigos and I think they are just fine for comfort. I don't like walking in them because they squeak, though. If Sidis are in your price range, they are the boot you need to buy. Pretty much every part is replaceable except the lorinca; even the soles can be replaced.

I don't think you need to race to buy a full boot, and I can't think of a good reason to not buy the most coverage you can get for your feet/ankle area. I have my Vertigos and a pair of Puma Desmos, and both are just fine to walk in, with the Desmos feeling like a normal shoe.

The problem I am running into up here, is that no one stocks the Sidi Vertigo boots. I am going to have to order the boots I decide on. I guess I am willing to spend the money, don't really want to, but it is like insurance I guess. Hopefully, you never need it, but if you do, it is worth every penny and more.

I've got white ones because they were on sale (and because I am baller) and I will warn you that they seemed to run a half size too big on me. When I wear them under my pants I wear two pairs of socks or else the calf has too much room, even at its tightest. However, when I wear them over my leathers, I cannot even tighten them all the way down.

i just bought the icon superduty 3 boots and i love them. they are a good street boot and i can walk around in them all day with no problems

Big Blue, what is the ankle protection like in those? I am looking for something that will withstand crushing as well as a slide.

they are pretty sturdy in the ankle area. there is a peice of hard foam right on the ankle bone that would help a lot in case of a crash.

The superduty III is very comfortable. The ankle wouldn't quite survive a full crushing though. It's just a small round bulb of med/hard foam. Not plastic or anything.

I went down in mine, but it was pretty much a complete stop, then tipover. I had a sprained ankle on the side the bike fell on, which was completely fine by the time I got the bike up and running again. Walked it off in a minute.

I switched for a pair of Shift Fuel boots. The Superduty's wore pretty quickly considering I don't walk in them too much. Definitely good boots though, I'd buy them again. Only qualm is the sole separated on one and I had to glue it back.

I still have them around if anyone needs a size 14 for some reason. A bunch of surface rash on the sides (leather spot and metal buckle) from sitting indian style, and worn soles. Still some life though, which is why I haven't tossed em.

i wear mine to work and i had to put insoles in them because the ones that came in them were really thin

I decided that if I am going to buy riding boots for protection, I might as well get the full boots. I went back and forth with the Joe Rocket Superstreets and Sidi Vertigos and decided to go with the Vertigo Rainboots, so I am covered for wet riding as well. Hopefully I made the right choice. We will see when they make it through New Enough's rather convoluted shipping process.
