Was driving around yesterday and spooted the very rare super duper King Squid. I just had to take a picture to share.

This dude had THREE helmets on his bike and wasnt wearing a single one. The one you cant see was sitting on his tank in front of him. (I have a theory he had a 4th in his backpack) Tack onto that the wife beater, shorts, and ipod and we gentlemen have the crown jewel of squids IMO.

I used to be like u guys and knock people for not wearing 16 pairs of pants 20 tshirts, blah, blah blah.I
think I was knocking them, was because I was too scared to ride in shorts, and tshirt. If you are a new rider,or unexperianced rider,
Then wear it,It will save some skin.Riding a bike is dangerous anyway,So my 2 cents is do what you want, and be comfortable. My first ride through ky(no helmet law)I was scared to ride without it,but I gave in and took it off. That was nice,I rode about 300 miles with it off,and it was great.I am not scared to ride in shorts, and tshirt,(wont wear flip flops though)anymore. If it`s my time then it is my time, but it is comfortable. So stop being a douche bag,and knocking other people, when your skill level/experiance grows, you may end up trying it,and you will like it.
You also have more movement, and control over the bike with less crap on.

i agree on wearing what you want its your life.but that dude does look pretty lame with two helmets on his bike.ive also seen wrecks where the person all f..... up and theres a helmet strapped to his bike.if your not going to wear it leave it at home and you wont look stupid riding or laying on the side of the road.making fun of someone is something we all do in good fun.like the harley guys leather dorag leather vest leather jacket leather chaps probably leather boxers looks like there on there way to the mission dist in sf.:D

BTW.... I'm not knocking the helmet free ( I used to pick and choose when I wore a lid, but thanks to the NC state helmet law my helmet saved my life this summer ). I now will always wear a lid by choice, but this guy just seems to be a rolling contradiction and for that I say he deserves a little blasting....;)

this bike is actually a honda prototype in disguise.the helmets are really flotation devices.if you look carefully in front of his feet youll see two silver bars those are really hydrofoils this bike is amphibious.hence the shirt, shorts, boat shoes and orange life vest required by law.i think honda is going to call it the wet 1000rr.:D

and when your skill level and experiance grows you realize protection is more important than thinking you look cool and ready for a run on the beach.

Most times it isnt what the riderr is capable of that matters when it comes to an injury rather the highschool girl texting or the old driver who cant see or hear ****.

Wearing gear no matter what your abilities is hands down better and if it is your time so be it but I would do my damnedest to make sure it isnt my time by atleast wearing what gear I have.

I dont wear a full race suit like Dave:p, either but I do wear full gear and it you are one to just wear shorts and other minimal gear you are just setting yourself up for hurt. [smirk]

To each there own but you wont see me riding without my helmet that is a damn fact.

I would argue that a person that doesn't wear gear has never taken a spill off a bike. The 2 weeks of pain and permanent scars are enough to make me be "uncomfortable" when going for a ride.

No, a helmet probably isn't going to save your life if you go head-on into a tree/car/guard rail/moose/whatever, but it's sure as hell going to prevent this: (no, that's not me. Do a google search for "Helmet Rash") http://www.daymented.com/2006/0613_scott_road_rash.jpg

PUT YOU DAMN GEAR ON!

[edit]
Thanks for the "King Squid" pics. AWESOME!

I was guilty of not wearing all my gear when I lived in AZ but after I moved back to California I always wear gear, even now in the summer. Just this past week 5 guys came to the pub I hang out at, 4 on Ninja's and 1 CBR. One of them had bandages all up and down his arms, he was limping to the table and I could see patches of skinned grafted up and down his arms. I thought, man that could have been me many times in the past. As I left and grabbed my helmet and jacket I looked at him, he smiled and nodded as if to say "Good move". I nodded back and gave him that "Yeah, I know" look back. I felt for him that's for sure.

I wear the gear, especially a helmet. I live in NY close to the PA border, no helmet law in PA, I still wear one. I hit a deer 2 years ago and I would have died with out it. My helmet was cracked but my head was intact. I had a bad concussion but I am alive.

when your skill level/experiance grows, you may end up trying it,and you will like it.
Two of the best riders in the world, Colin Edwards and Ben Spies were at a autograph session recently and a guy asked them if they ever rode without gear on the street. They both said "Not a chance".

I must atmit I don't always wear my jacket especialy in this texas heat, But unless in am moving my bike around in the parking lot or something I never go without my helmet. I tried it once and felt naked. I think I can live with some road rash but I would not be too happy if my face or brain was messed up.

I also have this therory on not wearing a helmet, It just proves to me that natrual selection does exsist.

I wear my helmet every time I ride.... but, I'll ocassionally wear a t-shirt and shorts, especially if it's going to be a relatively short (non-technical) ride.

As suggested, perhaps I ride that way sometimes because I've never wrecked a road-bike (knock-on-wood)... or perhaps because I'm neither a huge pu$$y nor Nicky Haden.

Each person has good points. There is always the positive, and the negative.
So if a squid is someone with no gear,
is an octopuss someone with all the gear on.
Just joking on that.Picture copied from internet.http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/6953_20100726100046_L.jpg

I always wear my helmet, jacket and gloves. Want riding pants and boots but can't afford them right now. Maybe Christmas present to myself. I've seen too many wrecks and few friends after crash who didn't wear their gear. Luckily they still alive and riding - in full gear...

When it comes to these guys, I don't care. They're adults they know the risk. It's their skin and bones, it's their lives.

I always wear helmet and jacket. I drive 3 miles to work so sometimes I don't mess with the gloves. Always wear long pants and at the least tennis shoes. More times than not I wear my work boots as they are high tops. Trying to save up for some armored pants. I agree that these guys are adults and should be allowed to make their own decisions...as long as it doesn't affect me.

xtremelow got it exactly right. It's usually all of the other stuff you can't control that causes accidents.

ztied got it exactly wrong. Please don't give this kind of advice to anyone. Keep it to yourself and do what you want.

Remember, you dress for the crash, not the ride.

You've probably only ridden for a year or so huh? but I'm sure you could out race Superbike and Moto GP riders in your shorts and tank top since you're more comfortable.

It's sort of like ****ing a chick you just met without a condom, sure feels good but is stupid as hell.

Kidder next time you don`t like what someone is wearing, are you thinking that because everyone else does,or becuase thats how u feel?

Alfatango01 I am not bragging about my ridding ability,I have about 25 years of riding under my belt.I ride dirt/atv/and street.I have at the least one of each of these vehicles, and ride almost daily.

Anyway my point is it seems everyone is knocking these people(squids),just becuse the other person is.
People don`t get mad,I was just making a point here, about knocking the people.

Please be safe when you ride, and wear what you feel is best for you,But these are, our fellow riders, whether we like what they wear,or not.

ztied,

It's a free country, do what you want. I just think your advice was extremely flawed. Please don't spread that way of thinking to other riders.

I always wear riding pants, jacket, gauntlets, riding boots, helmet. But, I'm an ex-club racer so I know what proper gear can provide. I had a 100 mph get off and I walked away with only a broken wrist, no rash, nada. Try doing that in a T-shirt.

So even if you started riding dirt bikes at 10, that would make you 35 or older? Sure doesn't sound like the advice or wisdom of someone that age.

So is that good or bad to have that many points, can I cash then in for a shirt?

your or your employers ins rates because of uninsured cost you more than taxes ever will with this new bill.also a bill like this was proposed over 20 years ago by bush sr and fought against by the dems, and parts of this bill that repubs wanted 20 years ago they fought against this time.people should actually read these things before supporting or opposeing these things and they would relise both dems and repubs are liers and will say anything to oppose the other.
