Well thats not a supercharger that is a wind tunnel or wind control valve but there is probably one under that.

That picture is just a air cleaner kit, not a supercharger. Its called a Hypercharger from a company Kuryakyn.

Yes that is definitely just a Kuryakyn Hypercharger I had one of those on my old Cyclone. It is throttle controled those butterfly valves open and close with the amount of throttle you give the bike.

yep, that's why i asked...
ok there are turbo's & supercharge available, not cheap...there's a post somewhere on here where i posted pics & a video of it.
there's a special (veeery expensive) supercharger on the lazareth bike:
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/627_20071129060538_L.jpg
and currently experimenting with an electric supercharger, which should be about a 10hp gain with a reasonable cost (and it's u.s. made [smirk];))

That little thing on top of the air box will never give you 10hp. That is a cheap thing built for cars that does nothing for cars. It might give you a couple HP but not 10hp.

if your refereing to the first pic its a blower and im pretty positive it helps alot on cars for example lots and lots of drag cars run them
pretty sure it does a little bit more than alot for cars

This set up above is NOT a supercharger!! It is a Kuryakyn HyperCharger. Even the ones on cars that lok like this are not superchargers, they are just air cleaners.
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/627_20071129060538_L.jpg
This set up above is a custom fully functioning supercharger set up. Helps power output.
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/627_20080229140110_L.jpg
This set up will hardly help output at all. The ones they make for cars are a joke. Search youtube for car and leafblower to see what I am talking about.

I've been looking at putting a hypercharger on my bke after I seen some pics of it done. I don't suspect it will do anything for performance but I think they do look badA33! I'm thinking of going with the black one. Just don't know how the Hypercharger works. Does anyone know if there is a filter in side the unit it self?

Yes the Hypercharger has a K&N style filter in it. The butterflys are actuated by engine vacuum.

i was thinkin something along the lines of a ford probe turbo and a lil bit of custom piping will work sense a probe turbo only pushes about 2 or 3 lbs of boost you shouldnt have to do ne thing to the motor maybe a thicker set of head gaskets no biggy

the Aerocharger unit for Harleys (no different for the Buell) runs 8-12 lbs of boost and requires no 'beefing up' of the motor.

seems like it wouldnt hold up with that much boost but in one article the guy says somethig about a cam that they supply to run with this aerocharger for certain bikes which makes more sense im gointo look more into this because i am building a totaly custom street bike out of my 12r and i wanted to strap a ford probe turbo on it but now theres this and if its not all lies i will be purchasing one and will deffinitly send in a report of who what where when why and how

The response on my ‘Supercharger’ question is awesome, the turbo setup of the Lightning is way-out and looks great. The guys her at our Harley shops [South Africa] recon that the ‘crank setup’ of the Buell is to ‘soft’ and the motor will not last, event with limited boost. Is there anybody that can give us some positive and reliable report on the crack/conrod/piston/cylinderhead setup. I do not want to ’blow’ my 12ss motor

What experience do anyone have on the extension of the ‘flyscreen’. I have extended my flyscreen with approx 14 cm and what a surprising result. Not only do the Buell look different but the aerodynamics of the bike improved considerably, I can not with ease sit upright at 200 and enjoy the ride, The fuel consumption is slightly better, around 16km/l on the average speed of 160, but who cares, at that speed nothing matters.:p

deon, where in s.a. are you? will be there for a month with a visit to the family in november/december.
any hd/buell shops worth visiting?
when installing a supercharger, you need to reinforce the engine, which is a costly thing.
and even then, i would not advise it for a daily rider. for this you need to open her up regularly and measure out everything to see if nothing has been damaged and needs fixing.

so does that hypercharger do much for performance or is the stock ram air with a K&N just as good

the Aerocharger unit for Harleys (no different for the Buell) runs 8-12 lbs of boost and requires no 'beefing up' of the motor.
But where would you put an intercooler on a Buell? The Larger Harley Cruisers have space for the intercooler which allows them to run the 8-10lbs of boost, but try to run boost that high on anything with hot air and you are going to make no power as you are just forcing hot air into the intake which we all know is a power robber.
Yeah forcing in more air will give you some gains but not what you would think it should. Hell you could even tune it to run off E90 then you dont need an intercooler but at $6 a gallon it might just not be worth it.
IMO, you would be best off with some internal work and a custom tune which would probably cost less and be way cooler....

You could mount it under the seat, with a small puller fan.

intercoolers are not required to make power with forced induction, true they increase gains by a percentage but you can still pull 30-40 percent increases with a "hot-air" turbo..... but we are talking about a procharger, this is a mechanicaly driven set-up and that means no exhaust gases to heat up the intake air, so plainly put, a supercharger (roots or centrifugal) will only slightly heat intake air due to friction.
So no intercooler is not a huge problem.

I still beleive in No replacement for displacment. The power of a turbo or a blower would be great, but who wants a buch of junk hangin off your bike? Adds weight, throws off the balance. These bikes where built for the twistees, If you want a drag bike, buy a ZX12 or ugly ass Busa.
Just my 2 cents.

Stopie - For any boosted setup you should cool the air. The reason it heats up is from the compression of the air. The amount of heat transferred from the exhaust on a turbo setup is a lot less then the amount generated by the gases compressing.
Someone had mentioned a ford probe turbo but that would be way too big for these engines. I did a setup on a TL1000 at my old shop years ago but I can't remember what turbo we used. I sourced it right from turbonetics though. Give them all the info on your engine and they will let you know the perfect turbo for your setup.

This place does turbo kits for Harley's, Suzuki's, Yamaha's, etc...
I'm sure with some small modifications they can be adapted to a Buell.
if your gona put a turbo on your bike you need to make sure you have an inter-cooler to regulate the air temperature...

No electric driven fan has so far worked on any automobile except when the testers use an external battery not connected to the engine. Soon as you use the vehicles own battery the power drops back down. The alternator draws equal power to charge the battery as it adds to the engine.

Soon as you use the vehicles own battery the power drops back down. The alternator draws equal power to charge the battery as it adds to the engine. You need pressure to get Hp and fans are bad at building pressure. An electric driver supercharger does work. But its not a radial fan...
