Hi i have had a buell xb 9r for about 3 years now and loved the ride. Only now the gear box is really giving problems. when doan gearing it jumps out of 1st and when pulling off it jumps out of second. I have taken it to Harley South Africa and the techi ther says its the selector pins. He has priced me to fix it but i am looking at a high figure it almost makes me wanna change to a 6 speed close ratio box. (if there is one for the buell xb models). any one heard of one. Or had issues with the selecter Pins.

Replace the drum yourself - its not that hard, my question - is there something better than that C-clip we could use to hold the detent plate?

Is there such a thing as an after market gearbox mod to add an extra gear? Id drop the $$ for that in a heartbeat.

Not that I am aware of at this point. Baker makes them for the older tube frames and the sportys. Bakers says they have a six speed in the makings for the newer sporty and buell designs.

Yes there is. Can't remember where, but I saw an ad for a Baker 6-speed gearset for the Buell/Sportster gearbox. Don't remember the price, but it is out there.

You would think there would be one out there. Isn't there a gearset for the new evo XL's that would work? I thought it was basically the same gearbox, is there a difference? [confused]

Hey, here's something for ya.
Baker Drivetrain Part #: DR-DS326101 - For 95-03 XL, Buell... $2,133.85
So ya, start saving :( But this is straight from thier website . . .

The BAKER™ XL6 is a six-speed overdrive ‘cartridge style’ gearset that converts any existing 1991-2003 Sportster/Buell to a BAKER™ six speed. 2nd through 5th gear ratios are effectively the same as stock, 6th gear is a true overdrive.

Yeah and if you check into it, that will not fit XB model Buells. They actually have two different sets that fit 91-94 sportys and 95-03 sportys and Buells.

Strange, I still wonder what is different between them? Sure would be nice to have one more gear, huh? Too bad I spent my money on the "look-good" stuff. Oh well, if you saw my Harley yo uwould know I'm all about "form over function"! [cool]

i think there is a 6 speed but most the time 6 gear is a overdrive. thats what i have noticed from owning harleys.
