I bought my 1125R new in 2008 and always have had problem with temp getting hot and staying hot. I removed the themostat for constant circulation and worked for a while but still gets up to 220-230 on a normal basis. I have riden on some days and temp will stay around 175-185 and then some times it runs 220-230. And the days outside temp has no bearing on the fluxuation. Is the waterpump electric or mechanical? Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's a mechanical pump. I have heard of pumps going out and people replacing them with the EBR pump which is just a 2010 water pump. I have heard of fans not working but u should have a code for that.

The repair manual troubleshooting guide says

1 insufficient oil supply or oil not circulating
2 insufficient air flow over engine
3 heavy carbon deposits
4 ignition timing retarded due to faulty sensor(s)
5 leaking valve
6 radiator dirty, plugged
7 insuthentic coolant supply
8 cooling system vent hose crimped
9 air in cooling system

Also in the cooling section it says

1 air flow through radiator is obstructed
2 the radiator is interally plugged
3 insufficient coolant
4 cooling fans not operating
5 thermostat stuck closed

Hope this all helps, Good luck!

i would recommend putting the thermostat back in. Some cooling systems need to have the thermostat in place to direct all of the coolant through the radiator(s) when open, causing the engine to run hotter than it normally would.

Many BMW (cars) are built this way. As a tech, I see this from time to time, as well as incorrectly installed thermostats, and just flat out wrong parts.

I live down in south texas where the temp is constantly over 100 degrees. A thermostat is good but it would stay open 100% of time here is why i removed it. It is night now and showing 92 degrees. I think I just need to move to the mid-west,lol.

removing the t-stat dosnt let coolant stay in the radiator long enough to cool all the way before releasing back into the engine.

Texas -

Not sure that I would recommend a move to the mid-west...saw snow here in WI Saturday and probably have done the last ride for the season...

More to your heat issue, I saw some very high temps this summer on a few rides but only in traffic where there was little or no air movement.

Would agree with anrkizm95 on the need for the t-stat in order to have any chance of the coolant having any time to disipate the heat. I am wondering if there is way to install a secondary cooling option to run in support of your primary. Do know that the heat bleeds into the frame in a big way at these temps which can make a ride uncomfortable...

i bought a ebr racing ecu for mine, the temrature dropped for about 10 degrees. i have not seen mine hotter than 85 degrees since i changed the ecu.

The radiator fans have been failing on these bikes too. I had one go bad and it was popping the fuse for both fans. There have been a few reported on BWB as well. That will definitely cause your bike to run REALLY hot above 70 or 80 degrees and when stopped. You don't want to be stopped for very long when that happens. These are ridiculously hot running bikes IMO in the first place.

first
I would agree with anrkizm95 on the coolant not staying in radiator long enough, but would follow it up with the thermostat is a restriction never remove completely, leave a restriction in place
second
a pump that has full flow draws more power, restricting flow uses LESS power
third
by removing the thermostat flow increased eating more motor power creating more heat, but stays in radiator less time creating a loop of disaster.
if you fell the need to remove thermostat leave permiter in as restriction or drill hole in valve if possible

I took bike out earlier. It started ok but got hot pretty quick. If i run 65-80mph its ok and temps are from 190-195 and when stopped, it skyrockets to 220-230. Both fans are working just fine at this point. And then later in the day when it was even hotter (outside temp was 95 degrees) at normal speed 65-80mph, my temp was 175-190. This is really becoming an issue... Somedays its ok and some days its very hot... No issues with cooling fans and both work just fine, even when over 190. And then, running 45-60mph around town, temp went to 235 degree and temp light came on, i pulled to side of road and pulled onto sidewalk and bike turned off... After 30 minutes, i tried to restart and battery was dead. Oh, i checked oil level before all riding and level was just fine. Coolant fluid level was at 'full level'. I have a new thermostat on order and another guy mentioned to order the waterpump case or something from EBRacing. I just took out air cleaner and it was normal-not dirty or clogged. Does anyone have any problems like this to share and maybe i can pinpoint what this problem may be? Any help is greatly [email protected] Michael 956-357-3208 cell#

Mine ran really hot with the stock ecu.. it was much better with the o s b tune and even better with the ebr tune.

Recalls are different than tunes (as you prob know). Your EBR ECM without a doubt would address any of the final Buell/HD tunes.

Shoot Michael from EBR an email and ask if there is anything they can do for you.

I have the adjustable EBR race ECM and I can set the temp that the fans come on. I'd venture to say there is more the ECM can do besides fan on/off. I bring this up as I imagine EBR can do the same for your ECM.

Any consideration for the various water wetter type products?

I'd like to know the dif in the 2008-2010 water pumps.

Thx puzzled. I thought about the Evans Coolant and replacing the thermostat. Hopefully that works. Nope sure if I can do anything else.
