My 2003 XB9s got into skip spark this summer for the first time on a trip. I have run it in these conditions for years without issues. Over a few hot days on a long trip it progressively triggered the light (and into skip spark if I continued) at lower and lower power usage/outside temps. At first it was at 75 MPH interstate cruising on a 100 deg day (understandable but a new issue) and by day three it was 50 MPH and 80 deg temp day to appear hot (light came on) and if I stopped and let it cool it would be OK. Otherwise, it ran fine. It has had the factory Buell "off-road" ecm & muffler since it was sold new without problems. Can the cylinder head temp sensor fail in this way? Can it send an incorrect value to where the bike thinks it is running hotter than it actually is? I really gave no other signs (detonation etc...).
