Hey everyone!
About four months ago i was curious about the mirrors listed on ebay under motosection (wont let me link it, annoying as ****) and i was advised by another member on the board that they indeed fit our lightnings despite the fact that the measurements given on the website make it seem as if they do not fit. Well surprise surprise they DO NOT FIT. I had to make another adapter to get them to fit. Likewise, the adapter wasn't hard to make and they are high quality built if you ask me! Look good too! But be advised, no matter what anyone tells you, these do not fit. For reference i have a 2010 xb12ss, but im pretty certain the bar sizes are all the same

I thought all mirrors were the same? 10mm threads for the stock style, 7/8 diameter for the outside of the bars, and the only difference for the inside diameter would be whether you had steel or aluminum bars. My bar end mirrors came with adapters for both sizes and they fit in either kind of bar.

Im pretty sure that he is referring to the ones that I purchased yesterday... CNC bar end mirrors. Oberon rip-offs

I bought the oberon knock offs and they fit just fine for me. I do have crossroads though.

Oberon knock offs here.
To small for the ss bars had to wrap with rubber hose.

Took them off all together and havnt ran mirrors for over a year.

I try posting a link as a normal link and as a url and it won't let me. it says the maximum word length is 60 characters and i guess my link is longer than 60 characters. To repeat, i have the stock SS bars and they did come with an adapter and there is NO way they were gonna fit with or without the adapter. They just weren't, there was a pretty clear gap in the bars that the mirrors didn't fill.

I'll see if i can get a pic sent to me. The bike isn't with me but i should still be able to get a pic sent to me sometime today. In order to make them fit i machined an adapter to slip into the bar out of nylon. Pretty much just an extremely skinny piece of nylon tube that i made on the lathe.

I'll try to upload pictures later this evening. The bars do look good on though in my opinon!

I just got my today. They fit on there alright. Took a lil finesse to get them on but they seem to be on there pretty well. I got the CNC bar end mirrors from ebay.

I have the same set. Buells odd handlebar size is a bit big for these, but a little clever adjustments make them fit.

Just to clarify:

These are the motosection mirrors
NOT the CNC mirrors

Just bought a set of these (Item 160520067983) from "47World" on 1/18 and they came in today. They look nice and were shipped quickly from the US. I would recommend them. [up]

They may take some finessing to fit properly but I'm OK with that for $27.65 shipped. [cool]

Where did you get those headlights? Or did you make them somehow?

50dro - I also ordered from 47world. Mirrors look great and shipped fast (4-days) but don't cinch up in my stock '08 12S bars. Duct tape wrapping didn't cinch up tight enough either. What did you use to shim them into place?

I replaced my 'clinching parts" with a rubber compression version sort of like Rizoma does:

Rizoma Bar Ends (http://www.rizoma.com/en/search.html?q=bar+end)

Works well..

Just need to wrap somthing like thin rubber or sandpaper around them before you install. Engineerski!

yeah those do suck... I tried to wrap electric tape around it so it would grip the inside of the bar but it was not very secure.

So I had a tool maker at work make me these...

I've McGyvered a solution for the 47World mirrors - same as Moto-Section photo shown by FrostedFlake. Duct tape wasn't secure enough so I spun up Pinky for a trip to Ace Hardware. Idea is to take a piece of 5/8th OD copper pipe, ground it down some, split it, then use it as a shim for the too small mirrors.

Here is the recipe:
Get 2" of 5/8 OD copper pipe
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/8622_20110411131250_L.jpg
Grind off a bunch of material before making other cuts - keep grinding, you haven't removed enough
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/8622_20110411131413_L.jpg
Next "split" the pipe with your dremel or hacksaw
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/8622_20110411131514_L.jpg
Then cutoff the 1' section with a tubing cutter or dremel (pic is from my first pass - cut not made in ideal order)
http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/8622_20110411131610_L.jpg
Next, use a screw driver to pry open the split copper shim.
Slip fit everything.
Use a piece of original Copper pipe to scrap out the end cap glue left in the bars.
Now slip fit everything, you will undoubtedly need to hit the grinder again - keep grinding, you need to grind more than you think.
I got excited as the projected neared the end and forgot to take pictures of the final assembly. Now tighten the cinch bolt very tight or it will twist later.

Here is Pinky's left hand mirror

And CAUTION - put a thread of teflon pipe tape in the mirror shaft set screw. I lost a mirror at low speed [down] in the neighborhood after a triple digit "test run". Also lost the set screw...

Overall the mirrors are high quality, but do require some work to make them work well. For what it's worth 47World offered to refund no-charge the mirrors since they didn't fit.
Don't skip the teflon tape thread on the set screw!
Roll on Buellers!

Buellers, I am changing my assessment of these mirrors. They are not worth what you save. The screws are very difficult to keep tight due to sloppy tolerances. Over time I expect these to vibrate lose become additional casualties of "almost good enough" chinese manufacturing.:(

Well...My rubber mounts have held up but one of the set screws loosened today. To be fair I didn't tighten them too much so that I could adjust them but I'd recommend some blue thread-locker to keep them snug over time.

As I fit my new Renthal bars I plan to do a write-up of the rubber mounts using parts from your local hardware store. I haven't given up on these mirrors yet. I do like the way they look and they are sufficient...They're just not perfect but good for the price.

Don't skip the teflon tape thread on the set screw!

dont you think lock-tite thread sealant would be better?

Both are thread sealants. Since we're not sealing anything here the proper product would be a serviceable thread-locker such as blue loc-tite or equivalent.

Teflon is actually a lubricant so it wouldn't help from the screws backing out other than causing an interference fit due to the tape's thickness.

Sorry to ramble! I'll take my engineering hat off now! :D

Update on 47world:
- when I asked for bushing to make them "universal" to fit Buells, they offered a full refund if returned.
- I sent a note saying I mirror took a tumble so they sent me 1 complete mirror fit!

Awesome customer service - very rare to these days! [up]

Yes 50dro - Loctite is ideal but I had teflon tape within reach. It snugged up the fit enough (I think) to keep the set screws from backing out. Note they are 12mm x 1.5 or 1.75 and fall into the unobtainable category around here.
