i have been saving my money for buell lighting scg. after reading reviews people seem to have said the same thing, "not steady at highway speeds 80+" so does it not handle well on the highway after 80 mph???

Does it fine, some of them have a little head shake after 100. Mine is minimal. Your not going to get too far over a buck without serious modifications anyway. If you want ridiculous top end this is not the bike for you.

Buells aren't about top end they are about attacking the twisties and being diiferent ! :D

Mine sometimes has a weird quick wobble as I change lanes at 70 mph and above. It lasts for one second then goes away. I'm used to it now. Not a big deal. Just the personality of the bike.

I find that going 80 mph on my xb12r is like its sweet spot. It is very smooth at 80 and still has plenty of power left. I'm not much of a fan going faster than 100 though anymore... not worth the chance of speeding tickets or retarded deer if you ask me.

I dont have any issues at 80 or above. I dont have any seat time over 100 though, at least not on my bike.

Need to make sure your tires are properly inflated and your suspension is set up right. I think with the short wheelbase and steep head angle it makes it a lot more critical on these bikes.

I've never had any problems with shaking or anything on my sTT. I cant say the same for my cafe bikes haha.

If i wanna haul ass on the highway.. I take my K =)

Not the bike. Probably the rider holding on too tight and when fighting the turbulence without a fairing, they are making inputs to the bars and the shake begins.

I had head shake above 100, wheel was balanced incorrectly. Had it done right, no shake anywhere up to 130. Might also shake if suspension is incorrectly setup for weight.

Like the previous posters said....proper suspension setup and rider style are a big factor on the handling. I personally like the bikes responsiveness between 70-120. But I do agree..those mentally challenged deer do pose a huge problem to a good ride!! :p

No problem 0-120 till i installed cheap tires hope to be on new ones this year ! 2010 xb12scg

I have a Firebolt and routinely go over 100 and as high as 130 less than a month ago and never had a shake. Maybe it's the fairing on a bolt or lack of one on a lightning. Some have had worn out or loose head bearings but mine is fine after 8 years and 13,000 miles.

I do my best to avoid the highway in general, but I do end up there everyonce in a while. I had a 5 hour highway ride home when I first bought it at well. I usually end up cruising right around 80. The bike handles it perfectly fine but the wind will kill you after too long. Make sure you wear ear plugs because there's no where to duck to get out of the wind, and I usually feel like the further I try to hunch down the louder it gets.

Handling is really no different that any naked bike at beyond highway speeds.
I have no problem running 85 to 90 for 100+ miles other than the drop in MPG.
Other here who have done more forward handlebars probably experience even fewer speed issues since the forward positions lowers the rider profile a bit and thus improves aerodynamics.
I'm a fat guy so my gut is a big sail. But still no problems with stock seating position.:D:D

I cruise at 80 (most of the time) and my personal "redline" is currently 122, never noticed any shake <shrug>

80 MPH seems to be the sweet spot for me too, I have never had any shaking; maybe having the ss may help reduce the instability? At 130 I may have been focused on holding on lol!:)
