Hey just wondering if anyone knows whats happening with the 09 XB9 race ECM. I emailed ebr last summer and they said they were working on them, but so far have not seen anything. Hoping i can get one for next season! don't want to reprogram the stock one if I dont have to.
 
But flashing your own ECM is SO easy! and cheap!

What does the race ecm do? I've heard "it makes it fatter", what the hell. Tell me what will it do, specify what can it change.
 
It usually adds fuel across the whole map. It also has slightly more aggressive timing. The race ecm basically makes up for the free flowing race exhaust and filter.
 
I have left my stock one alone as well. I run the 08+ Erik Buell Racing Ecm A couple of weeks last year.Plus track days in Daytona/and Jesup Ga.& also atlanta. Power is a little better No popping on decell. Matter of fact the lite came on today coming back from the Base, getting ready for Bike Week.Now I Guess I'll send it Back & see what the deal is. Bike seems to run fine. Oil pressure is good ,I've installed some guages for voltage/oil etc. Hate just a lite to go by.On THE EBR ecms THE fan run time goes back to the orignal run by sensor/temp. only. The STOCK-Ecm, Runs the fan by speed as well as temp.This is a good program for everyday riding. Cools the bike pretty good. Yours is 2009,so I hope you have the newer ecm update.BTW- does your bike have the update. The warranty is from 1st owner date of purchase, as follows 2 yrs.unlimited miles except wear items.EPA related items 5yrs.or 18,600/or so miles.As long as theres no hacking etc.Parts covered-Ecm-02oxy.sensor,Temp.sensor for fan, IAT-or internal air temp.(inside air box).Even the muffler is an EPA unit cause of E-mark,catylic inside w/ active exhaust valve.Might want to put some miles on Ecm before replacing. Post up when can.
 
The main reason i wanted the race ecm is because according to the email ebr sent me these bikes are lean from the factory. I have a hawk muffler, would like to use a K&N but dont want to lean it out any further. the tech at ebr told me to buy the programmable ecm, its $700 bucks! no thanks.
 
I emailed the tech department a couple of days ago about something else & added a question about if/when they're gonna do an ECM for the newer 9's. They replied that they've been working on it but have been wrapped up in other projects...
 
Jimi-not sure about the update, my standard warranty expired in july of 2010, its an 09 but was a demo so the "in service" date put the warranty up in july about two months after i bought the thing. Think i may have gotten screwed on that deal, not sure. does anyone know how i could find out whether or not the pcm has been updated?
 
The way to tell is the fan run program . AS follows Fan will come on when you start up to about 15 to 22 mph.On the High Speed while riding the whole time. And fan will shut off when stopped. While idle the fan will still come on to the low speed by temperature. Fan will come up to high at idle also as needed, should you get caught in traffic. I admit it has helped my every day bike on cooling. I've even bought an extra fan worried about it wearing out to soon. BTW- THE Ecm, & control fan switch, o2 sensor,and other parts, (SEE above)! should be an EPA warranty of 18,600 miles give or take a few. OR 5yrs. whichever comes first. Bike warranty is 2yrs. unlimited miles/except wear items. ON a 2010 XB the fan is still more than likely on the Temperature only program . The EBR fan run works by the Temperature as well. Erik knows whats he's doing . This is what i'm going to do in a few weeks cause I think Harley was trying a quick fix. The throttle spits when it sits in traffic to long. So they came up with the fan run crap. As soon as i put the race ecm on the bike it ran way better.With two 02 sensors you should be fine.[up]
 
Oh Yeah, Theres a Ecm Spy program in place for custom tuning your 09 bike,this will of course void the ecms warranty. Take the course and set her up if your having a problem w/getting a race ecm at this time. Check Octopus' info out and Steven's as well there are so many people here on this Forum that can help . So hang in there get those items in a row. thats what I did! Make sure you Burn 2 disc' of the stock ecms program so you have a failsafe area to go with. Ecm Spy works great as long as you get the drivers AND cable.American Sport Bike has that. I also use a voltage adpt Rs232 chip just for safetys sake. Once you get a few things together on your laptop downloaded A BUELL monster is born.:D
 
I am anxiously waiting for the EBR ECM for my '08 XB9SX. I have the Randy Hawk muffler and a K&N and it seems to run fine with stock ECM. (well, when I last rode it months ago before winter). EBR recently sent another e-mail saying they are still working on it & flooded with e-mails so I won't bug them.

I hope they make one specifically for the Hawk muffler!
 
Im also waiting for a ebr ecm for my 09 xb12 with jardine. I was told not to map it myself but people also say it is easy. I have no experience with that! Kind of scared to mess up a new bike. Wont they re flash my old 1 if I send it in
