Hey guys new to the forum. My name is Jimmy in College Station, TX I have a 2004 1200 Firebolt.
Well I rode back from Houston to College Station today roughly about 80mi and I exited to ride the last few miles to my house. I shifted from 1st to 2nd no problem, however, when I tried to shift to 3rd it wouldn't go into gear. Whenever the engine was off I could pull the shift lever up, but it didn't seem to be shifting gears. I could just endlessly lift the shift lever up without it seeming like it was shifting at all. I am new to the buell. So Guys any and all help would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard. Do you have any shifter function at all now?

I do. After messing with it for about 10 min in a parking lot I got it to start shifting again.

However, literally it was a couple mile ride back at that point.

The service manuals are available for download here on this site. Get it and look for the clutch adjustment - might help. I think there's a DIY floating around here as well - mods.buellxb.com has the vids.
That'll probably the easiest thing to check first.

I adjusted the clutch, but it didn't change anything.
There's a false neutral in between 2-3
When shifting into 2nd it pops back down to 1st or neutral
Any suggestions?

Would this work for my bike?

I wouldn't be buying a lot of used parts until I knew what the problem really is. Pull off the primary drive cover and examine the shifter mechanism. The problem might be right there, and a simple fix.

we had a similiar problem with the lady's xb9. couldnt find fourth unless the revs were just perfect. ended up having to strip down the box and replace the selector. badly worn.

Livers, I hope so...
That's what I'm afraid of. As in 2004 from what I understand there isn't a trap door.... I wanna do it myself, but if there is one thing that really makes me uncomfortable.. It's splitting cases...

I was just trying to think ahead and get parts ahead of time. Actually, I didn't realize there wasn't a trap door. So if it was something more.... I would been selling an expensive paperweight.

I'm glad it worked out easy for you. Sometimes it is the simple stuff.
