Race exhaust :powder coating or ceramic coating

Hi there,
my beloved race exhaust has started to look like a rusty dalmatian. A few spots of rust have made it to the surface.

I was wondering if a regular powder coat would do or if i should go with the ceramic coating.

All companies that i have contacted cannot guarantee that their regular powder coating will stick on the exhaust.

My question is, have any of you done a similar mod to your exhaust?

I ceramic coated my headers but chose to leave the can as is. The guy who did it for me offered to coat the can, but of course, he could only do an exterior coat whereas the headers are coated inside and out. I know a few of the other guys have just used rattle-can BBQ paint for the high temp.

They have a black ceramic coat spray paint at auto parts store's. $7.99 for one can. Then you can bake your muffler in the oven. Sounds crazy but it works very good. Grill paint works to. Not as good as the ceramic spray bombs tho. ;)

do it right have it cermic coated.
Exhaust gets hot.

Ceramic from the factory, weren't they? Mine was about 6 years old when I sold it, still looked fair to good. Can't beat that for durability.

High temp paint will resist stone chips better if you drive on gravel roads often. But ceramic over powder coat anytime of the week for an exhaust.

Powder coat with about 5000 miles...... Shows some small signs of age.... Still looks fine.......

Mine is about 6-7 years old... and the stock coating started to come off last year, right between the two tips.

i was thinking of coating it silver like the stock, but now that i see that orange detail [smirk]... something to think about...

i guess if i choose the ''bake'' paint i shouldn't cook my chicken next to it :D

I work for a powder coater, the pipes coming out of the engine get way too hot for powder coat. As for the muffler, we have done some for bigger harley bikes dressers, baggers (no guarantee) but it holds up. There are even some high temp powders, but in very basic colors. Ceramic coating is very fragile, if you drop it, it will likely chip.

I had my muffler ceramic coated black with polished silver tips. Cost a little more but worth it IMO.
