so I may have the chance to pick up a race pipe by trading my stock pipe plus $85.
the race pipe is showing its age with a little rust, what are my options as far as brands for high temp paint?....or is powder coating close enough in price to go ahead and get it powder coated?...

I used a high temp engine paint on mine and still looks good after a year almost.

did you just pick that up at menards or auto zone or some place?....
and did you have to do any prep work before spraying it?

I did the same as sidefx. Any parts store should have this paint or similar. I sandblasted mine first.

I used a 220 grit sand paper over everything.
That paint should be easy to find at a auto parts store.

Do yourself a favor, and take it in to be ceramic coated- WAY more durable, and should only cost about $50 including sandblasting.
I want my headers ceramic coated but i cant find ANYONE around me to do it. Am i just not looking hard enough?

Find some local Drag racers if there's a strip close by - Most of them have had their headers ceramic coated at some time and can help.

Just send it out to Jet Hot Coat if there's no one within a few hours of you.

Many powder coating shops do ceramic coatings as well. Call around and even if they do not do it, ask them if they know who does.
Just called a place by my of the Jet Hot and they say they dont ceramic coat.....[mad] What should i do?

Engine paint on an exhaust is not a good idea. Headers and exhaust get hotter then engine's F.Y.I. Use somthing like this. Its better. Hell.... You can even use this on your headers. Its almost as good a ceramic coating. Follow the directions thoroughly. You actually have to bake the exhaust or headers in the oven on 3 different temps to harden the coating but its worth it ;)
