This is the first part to my lightningbolt transformation. I switch the top triple with a lightning one and installed a set of renthal ultra low bars with it. Next week I should have the rest of the parts to change out the front but I was tired of being bent over so I went ahead and at least made the handle bar switch for now. Only problem I noticed so far is I do need to switch my brake line out so that I can attach it back to the bottom triple clamp like it is supposed to be and I will have to change the clutch cable out before i will be able to run it threw the top triple like it is supposed to run for the lightning set up.

On my test run tonight I must say I really love the new seating position. I feel like I am on a dirt bike(in a good way).

yea I am just waiting for a few more parts to come in before I can begin changing out the front fairing. This weekend my dad and step mom want me to go on a big group ride thing with them and I just could not bare the thought of being leaned over in a sport bike stance riding slow in a huge pack of bikes so I had to change at least the bars today.

I am in Louisiana so pretty far I recon. I have a clutch cable on its way in the mail and had I known I would have needed the brake line too I could have got that from the same guy but oh well. I would have been willing to switch with you but my bike is my car so I really can't live with much down time on it.

Hay I'm new to this form and searched and found that swapping thunderbolt parts to lightning bolt is popular. why?

Boston its personal preference, look through the users bikes section of the forum and you'll see the different set ups and welcome.

Because it is the model that Buell should have made but didn't. Or it just shows how because Buell made so many models on the same frames it allows us to mix and match those differences as we want to.

This is one of the cool things about buells. I have never seen two buells look exactly the same unless they were untitled sitting on the show room floor.

Hay guys you know whats funny. The previous owner to my bike did this upgrade. And I didn't know it until my buddy who loves buells and works on bikes notice it and told me. I was wondering why the pic of Firebolt 020283 look like my bike

No only if you go from a lightning to bolt. The bolt has most of the wiring under the front fairing and the the ligtning has the ecm and stuff under the seat.

Wrong you dont need to change the wiring harness on either account. many people change the lightning tail to firebolt tail with no wiring harness change and I have just proved that you can put a lightning front end on a firebolt with no wire harness change.

I'm gonna go with the latter on that one. ;)

How do the handle bars work with the stock Firebolt fairing? I'm considering doing this swap myself.

I spoke with the rep from LSL last year at Americade. I asked about getting a kit and using one of their different bars, but he said probably not. They picked the one that works with stock fairing and turn all the way left and right.

it worked fine with the firebolt fairing but you have to make sure your clutch and brake levers are turned down enough to not hit the mirrors.

Is this a hard job? Can some one with no experience with motorcycles do this? And how much does this cost? My problem as I mentioned before is that the previous owner of my bike put the lightining top tree in. And I want to put the stock top tree back on but I don't have any of the parts nor any macanical experiences with bikes.

changing the top triple is not hard at all and the only special tool you have to have is the security torx wrench for the ignition. but it is pretty much just a few allen screws so it is not hard at all. Pm me if you have any questions. As far as cost just depends on how much you can get the top triple for and what not.
