need some help i will be buying my first buell in about 2-3 weeks i rode a kawi 636 ninja last year an was not really what i was looking for so now i stunt it so i have loved buell for a long time now an ready to buy but dont know to much about them but im wanting a good street bike that i can also hit back roads an tear them up an put the local japp bikes to shame im looking at a white 09 firebolt xb12 but befor i buy i just trying to find out what buell owners think

like the looks of the xb12 better but i have seen a few peps selling there xb12 to get a lightning how come ?

sorry man, ur not going to tear up jappers with an xb, and not terrible bad with the 1125's. I would compare my old 636 ninja to a 1125 in the way it feels.
the buells are made for the twisties and back roads not the straight line like the japper inline 4's.

lightnings and firebolts are xb. the xb9r and xb12r is the firebolt. the s, scg, ss, stt, sx are the lightning models

the lightning has a less aggressive riding position which makes it more comfortable. they look better in my opinion, the tail is much nicer on the lightning. and the fairing on the firebolt looks like an afterthought to me. most of that is subjective, they are essentially the same bike with different bars and riding position.

The Lightning is very short looking without the fairing of the Firebolt imo even small riders look like they are a monkey humping a football :D Don't get me wrong, I like the Lightning but whenever I see one on the road I think they look weird. Bolts are more for track and aggressive riding due to the riding position.

haha thanks thats wat i was looking for lol i am a small person an dont want to look like im humping a football lol i want the more aggressive bike that is light an i can throw around the back roads an i dont reallt like the one piece seat on the lightning

Bolts are more for track and aggressive riding due to the riding position.

My lightnings keep up and can be ridden just as aggresively as the bolt. I'm 6'1 and am more comfy sitting upright as opposed to leaning foward on the bolt. The only drawback to the lightnings is the lack of wind protection.

If you like normal sportbikes you'd probably be happier on a firebolt so you have the clipons and fairing. I like firebolts, but I love lightnings. I prefer the short stubby look. I'm working on switching to the clipons from an xb9r so I can try out that position for a while but you've really just gotta pick one you like the looks of and go with it. All the parts are interchangable, whether it's the tails, front ends, foot pegs or handlebars so it's not like you're really stuck with one or the other if you change your mind.

get hte firebolt... i am a well structured 5'7" and love my bolt. the riding position is not as agressive as jap bikes but not as upright as the lightning. i agree that the shorter tail on the lightning is neater, hence my tail swap.

as for fun round twisties... you wont beat em.

Noi cherry's bike and converted to a full r

Xb's make torque and will eat stuff in tight twisty's
1125 just rips.

I second that. I was a cruiser but this bike turned me into a leaning machine. I love it. There is so much to customize as well. I have a 2003 XB9R. Will probably never sell it.

asking that question is like asking what came first? the the chicken? or the egg?
it all comes down to what look you like better.
i personally am a lighting fan.
but another thing to think about is a buell is not a good stunt bike little 100yard wheelie here and there is ok but after awhile things will break (motor mounts)not saying thats what you'll be doing but when you know how to do it you will do it just to show off.
oh and the blue book for a 09xb12r is $6600 don,t pay more then that. it's a buyers market

i found a 09 xb12r that had been laid down but with small scratching on the frame an swing arm an needs a foot peg an shifter with 1500 miles for $4500 an it is white :)i think thats wat im going to go with but by the great looking bikes

Get a shifter and test ride it. Do you know the basics of what to look for in buying a used bike?

1500 miles for $4500
It its a quick fix then this a good deal. Go for it man! I hope it wurx out for you.

ya i do bought my 636 used an have been threw more times i can count (brake stuff all the time stunttin) it still has some of the shifter it just broke the knob so i can still shift i could drill a hole an put a bolt an nut threw it an be done with it oooooo wait this is a harely not a rice rocket :)

I've owned one of each and they both have things that they do better than the other. For around town and some hooligan fun you cannot beat the Lightning. The seating position is uber comfortable. The upright ergos also make it a wheelie machine!
For the highway though the small fairing is actually pretty useful on the Firebolt, especially when it's cooler out. The seating position is still pretty comfortable but the forward position makes it far more "tame" in the wheelie department.
Either is a fine bike. I'd say the bolt is probably more suited for tearing up the back road twisties with.
