Let me preface this post by saying, "F^%&*^% squirrels!"

Squirrels attacked my fuel line and left me stranded at work. I am going to replace the line (with reinforced steel sheath) but my question is, can I replace the line with a more standard rubber line? The stock line is a harder type- possible abs line. I'd rather be able to pick something up at the auto part store rather than the stealership.

Thanks for the advice.

"F^%&*^% squirrels!"

Napa in my area sells a bag of stuff that repels rodents. I have heard this stuff fly's of the shelf and really works.

There should be neoprene line available at any auto store, just be sure to get the fuel injection rated one. There are also injection style hose clamps. They're smooth and don't have a gear with holes in the clamp. The holes in the clamp can cut into the hose.
Depending where the line is chewed, check with a local independent automotive repair shop. At our shop I install the nylon fuel line( looks like plastic) very often. They should have line in 8mm or 10mm and can repair your line or replace it. There's a tool to install the quick connnect fitting for your fuel rail. Best of luck, Chris

How did a Squirrels get in there?? You could temp., fix with 3/8 copper or 1/4 near the fuel pump, make sure to deburr after cutting.Napa other than the dealer would be my first choice for a fuel injection line.Next time give the poor squirrels those Peanuts. They are spiteful![smirk]

take it off and take it to a auto repair shop and they can fix it we would charge about 20.00 bucks this is the kit we would use http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/6369_20110329230029_L.jpg

I work at a zoo and the squirrels run amok all day. I will tell you this much, a squirrel will lose in a fight with to a gang of meerkats.

Thanks anrkizm- I replaced it with standard rubber fuel line and covered that line with steel braid. The issue im having now is when i flip the red engine switch, the noise continues after the engine ready light turns off. Do you think the problem is related?

The issue im having now is when i flip the red engine switch, the noise continues after the engine ready light turns off. Do you think the problem is related? if your talking about the fuel pump then yes its a problem if it keeps running.it should prime for 2 seconds then shut off unless the bike is running.if this started at the time of the squirrel attack its most likely a wire they chewed on.

yes, its the fuel pump that keeps running. the sound changes after the engine light turns off. i guess the best way to describe it is a pulsating and quiet.

ill check the wires. thanks.

ecm controls fuel pump.one wire to the pump is hot with key on.the other is a ground that is supplied by the ecm.either the ecm is bad or a ecm ground or the signal from the ecm to the pump is shorted to ground somewhere.this can all be checked with a multimeter if you know how to.it wont be a problem right away but it could change pump failure or ecm failure its hard to say

checked it with a multimeter and it checked out fine. ecm going bad seems unlikely, however, im not really used to american electronics. i figure they are as reliable as their american count-parts.

my concern is the sound the pump makes after the engine light turns on. its like a pathetic whine that doesn't turn off. maybe this is the pump functioning normal, its just that it got louder?
