Hey guys,

New to this forum and new to Buells; just bought an 09 XB12Ss a few weeks ago. Grew up on dirt bikes and Harleys, so Buells are a sweet hybrid.

As of right now, it's stock except for a Drummer exhaust and a slightly modified airbox. The guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner and knew nothing about it. He thought the Drummer was stock. So I bought this in kind of a "blind" state. It still has the stock ECM and airfilter. All I've done so far are the headlamp and breather mods and TPS reset. Plan on errecting my own airbox delete kit once I install the EBR ECM which will arrive Tuesday :) I've read mix-matched info about the preprogrammed race ecm. The main complaint seems to be the high idle at cold start. I live in Lubbock, Tx and the nearest Buell dealer is 5 hours a way in Dallas. What kind of tuning will "possibly" need to be done once the race ecm is installed. I was under the impression(at 1st) that it was simply a plug in and go setup, but further research has me thinking otherwise.

Any input/advice would be much appreciated!

The standard EBR ecm's are not "tuneable", the 250 dollar versions anyway, but it will be better than the stock ecm with the mods you have, the EBR ecm will be fun to use until you learn TunerPro and log and tune the stock ecm to your bike and environment, lots of info here for TunerPro and fine tuning, good luck, and ride it like you stole it

It is simple plug and play if you bought the right one from EBR. I do have a high idle at start, but it normalizes once it gets warmed up. If you want a specific tune, then you would look into what uly said above. I run an 09 xb12r with k&n, hawk exhaust, and ebr ecm.

The EBR programable is mainly for racing due to difference in setup for changing whatever is needed when Track racing and so on. The Standard EBR Ecm is kinda plug and go. If it doesn't idle right just shut off. Then do a TPS reset. The 08+ Bikes have a Key turn method. And you should be ready to go after that.Welcome to the Forum.Post up if you need the process for TPS.OR check out Stevenc150 and it is there also. Make sure to save your Stock Ecm for a spare.~Jimi

Thanks for the replies guys!

I received the new ecm yesteryday and installed in as soon as I got home from class. Unhooked the battery, plugged the new ecm in, hooked the battery back up, did the TPS reset, fired it up, and let it idle for 10 minutes. I didn't ride it because it was late and I had a big test today. I rode it this morning to class and that allowed me to cruise continually at about 3600 RPM for 15 minutes and then another 10-15 minutes of town riding. Idle may be a little high at startup, but it drops after a minute or 2 like NightRiders. Now all I have to do is stick a K&N on it with the airbox delete and I'm golden :D
