Someone is selling battery tender jr on craigslist, and I need another charger so I thought about grabbing it, but I spent some time browsing their website and I can't really tell what the difference is between the battery tender and the battery tender jr. I get that the bigger one charges faster, but do they do the same thing? Should I skip out on it and just buy a normal tender, or is the jr the same thing?

a battery tender jr might just monitor the battery and not charge it. the battery tender i have for my bike charges and monitors it(trickle charge). my girlfriends dad put his bike away with a battery that was low, to low for the tender to do anything with it b/c it does not charge it. i keeps the battery at its current voltage i guess. so i think what im trying to say is if your battery is full, the tender jr will keep it full, if your battery is anything but full ie: half or so low your bike wont turn over then it will keep it there and not charge it. some one correct me if im wrong please. my tender is a "Drag Specialties" 65 dollars new. i paid 40 from mine from the local harley shop.

I have 4 battery tender jrs for my bikes, picked em up for $25 each online. They charge the batterys and then keep them at a healthy voltage, not over-charging them. Very satisfied with them.

Yea I have a BT jr and I love that thing. A few times my battery has been dead and I have put it on there and in the morning it was charged.

glad that was cleared up!!![up] dont like to think i might have given someone the wrong info. thanks guys for correcting me.

Thanks guys! I sent the guy an email already to ask if he still has the part of the cable that actually bolts to the battery. He also said he had two HD/Blast oil filters, so I asked for the part numbers to be sure, but I'm assuming the Blasts use the same filters as the XBs, right?

yea the screw on plug is great because then you dont have to take your seat off every night you just plug it in.

I bought this battery charger/maintainer for about $20 at walmart.

Unique automatic battery charger maintains both 6 and 12 volt batteries keeping them at full charge using float-mode monitoring. Perfect for charging small batteries. Great for maintaining small and large batteries kept in storage – motorcycles, classic cars, RVs, boats. • 1.5 amp charger and maintainer. • LEDs indicate: Charging, Charged and Trouble. • Automatically switches from Full Charge to Float-Mode Monitoring. • Quick-Disconnect Harness – Snap either connector into place in seconds – Use the 50 amp clamps or permanently attach the ring connectors…great for hard-to-reach motorcycle batteries. • Reverse-hookup protection.

tender Junior 750 milliamps .75 amps
standard tender 1.5 amps
I normally jumper both my bikes battery's and use one.

You hook 2 batteries up to 1 charger? How does it know when each battery is fully charged? I'd be afraid it wouldn't be able to tell and would over charge one, or that it would get twice the power from both batteries and it would only keep them half as charged.

I use a Tender Jr also. Works great! It will charge a dead battery but at .75 amps it takes a while.

I also have the Schumacher tender and have been using it for almost 2 years now. Bought it as a last ditch effort when my ATV battery was dead and would take a charge from my large battery charger. It took about a week or so to charge it, but it did and has been working fine ever since. I got it on sale at Tractor Supply for $16.99 I think. Sure saved me from buying a $90 battery.

I know my '09 came with the tender pig tail on it from the dealer, same with my '04xl.
Look just above brake(right) side rider peg.

My 09 has a 3 prong plug for the newer tender but still works with the old 2 prong ones.

Battery tenders Float the big battery stores use a rack charger.
Battery are conneted paralel.
Tenders are designed to charge to 13.8v
than float to 12.5v
a battery won't take more than it needs and with a low amount less than 2 amps they both stay the same up floa charge.
Hell my snap on Dealer is the one who told me to do it.
his 69 nova pro street dodge viper and lawn mower are all jumperd togther.
As long as one of the battery doesn't have a shorted cell and discharge the others it works great for winter maintance

Haha I don't have any idea what you just said but I'll definitely take your word for it!

I'm not too concerned with charging dead batteries, just keeping the good ones charged. I have a bigger charger if I ever needed to charge up a dead one but I'm looking for a 2nd bike and it'll be cheaper to buy this charger now rather than waiting until I need it and having to pay $45. I used to only use it over winter but after reading more into them I've started hooking my bike up as soon as I park it so it'll be nice to have 2 and just let them do their thing.
