any tricks or what i should disconnect to pull the starter off? looks like i got to move some wires and probably disconnect the two oil lines that run behind it going into the swing arm?? that sound about right?? thanks guys got the two mounting bolts loose and need to pull it out to clean it up and check to see if the gasket or case breather or hose is leaking.

Get a copy of the manual, but here is what the manual says for my 2007 xb:

disconnect battery
Remove primary cover
remove sprocket cover
remove two starter mount bolts
remove fastener with washer
remove protective boot
remove wires from starter

Ive been through this on my bike, not near as easy as most cars.

You for sure do not need to dis-connect any oil lines. Pull the primary cover and then you can back the bolt off that's at about 4oclock on the starter. As you loosen the starter you can back this bolt off, when everything is loose it will just clear the teeth on the outside of the clutch basket. I know that sounds pretty vague but when you get in there it will be clear.

Can't post a link for some reason. Google 31390-91 starter and you'll get a number of hits. F looks like the latest revision.

Probably isn't your starter. Have it checked. If is make sure you get the correct one. Lots of part numbers. A sporters one fits mine. Bit turn out to be the mess ground on top of the bike. Looks like mesh.
