i was looking for some input. picked up a hero camera to check my lines while i ride the back woods. it came with a bunch of different ways to mount it. so my question is would it be ok to just use the suction cup mount on the tank? has any one tried it? looking for all the pro and cons

I rode with a guy who used some heavy duty velcro for his regular cam. I wouldn't trust the suction alone. not with out some sort of adhesive. having it on the tank as it is would be in my way as well? I don't know about you but i'm all over the tank and sliding side to side when i ride and when i'm tucked in on the straights i've got my helmet pressed into the speedo. maybe it's due to my crossroads but for me that would definitely be an obstacle. that arm looks adjustable is there a way to secure the base to your handle bars? or around the gauges so that it sits ontop of your fly screen? or maybe even in front of the flyscreen?

Thats one thing I've always got hung up on when it came to the hero vs. vhold cameras. The hero's form factor never looked like it was streamlined for what most people use it for. The box-iness of it, always seemed like it too the brunt of the wind. I hear of a lot of people rigging it to the chin bar of their helmets. I think because its mounted on the rider and not the bike, it cuts down the vibrations from the bike and the road. I imagine it does affect their vision though.

so d_adams did you use the suction cup on the tank? i'm assuming the flex in the plastic tank causes that?
You might get a bit of the jello effect mounted there.
im going to try it out this evening i'll keep you guys posted.

Mount it on your helmet;)
You can catch all the action!
Sorry if it's a repost. I thought this was amazing caught on video. Stupid people!

I just bought one too! I told you guys though. Yes the suction will hold that thing like crazy, BUT it will vibrate like hell and your video will look alittle distorted. Im going to mount mine to my helmet next time.

Im afraid to show you guys my videos cause i might get dissed alot on how i take my turns. But i would like to learn better technique. :D. It was hard at first to get this camera working right but i finally got it.

I lost my ContourHD 1080P a few weeks ago because of the ram mount letting loose and I didn't notice. I might give the GoPro a try this time around.

I agree with what Nuage420b, it would be in my way when tucked in, and to me it also would be a bit annoying where you have, and seems like it could/would be a BIG distraction , for many reasons, including trying not to hit it when moving around and looking at it for what ever reasons, and worrying and thinking it is about to fall or it is falling off!!! personally I would mount it on a ram style mount on the handle bars or helmet or somewhere whre I would not see it and get it off my mind so I can concentrate and have 110% focus on riding and being in control of what I'm trying to do!

well guys and maybe one gal, took her on the first maiden voyage. the suction cup worked great i also used a safety strap which was a around the neck key chain that i looped around my pants belt buckle

Guys i understand the annoyance of having it in front of you. But trust me, that suction is not going anywhere! That thing is stuck. Its a great design and locks into place.

surprisingly enough. it didn't shake around as much as i had thought it would now don't get me wrong there was a little jello effect that d_adams had mentioned but only at idle. the only complaints that i have so far is the sound and the freeze frame it gets when there is alot of things moving around. i am going to start messing with the settings tomorrow and see if that helps
