First off, long time lurker first time poster, love the site! Ton of awesome info here.
On the right side of my bike on the engine there is a cover plate that says XB12R firebolt and such, the rivets have gotten lose and it vibrates, making a high pitch pinging noise. I was wondering if I can drill out the rivets and put new ones in. So I would like to find out what exactly is behind that cover, if anyone knows or has another method to correct this issue, that would be great!
Thanks a lot!

I'm pretty sure you can drill out the rivets, tap the holes, and put some screws in there. Behind that cover is your ignition trigger. Ya wanna keep it covered. I'm not sure how big to drill, or what size thread to put in there.

I just drilled mine out and put in stainless screws to hold it on. Much easier.

I've seen a ton of people pull that cover off and put it back on with screws, or rivet it back on. People here even sell aftermarket covers that go there and you've gotta drill it out to take the stock one off.

You want to get some stainless steel 10-32 x 1/2" button head screws at Lowes or someplace like that. Of course, that is only if you can find a 10/32 tap to cut the threads. I just used the one at work. 1/2" is overkill, but I couldn't find 1/4". Cut them off if the length bothers you. IU left mine as-is, and it didn't seem to hurt anything. There's just lots of unneeded threads.

RAKARIS>>the rivet eliminator kit on asb.com is 17 bucks. it comes with bolts for your chin fairing and also comes with a tap, for retapping the cover your referring to as well as the screws to replace it[up]
