Does anyone know a good step by step guide on how to adjust the foot shifter. I just need a bit more room due to my boots being quite bulky. I imagine it cant be too hard? Thanks dudes!

Using a 3/8"open end wrench, loosen the two nuts on the shift linkage.Then using your fingers or a pair of pliers, turn the linkage (one way or the other) to raise or lower your shifter.Tighten the nuts back up.

Just got a round to looking at the shifter and I see 4-5 different bolts. Does anyone have picture showing which bolts I need to remove to make the adjustment. Thanks dudes!

I think I seriously screwed up my bike guys and I need some help. I am seriously freaking out here. I adjusted as instructed but didn't get enough room. I removed the linkage assembly off the top section where the spiny type shaft is located and just rotated the linkage a few "spines" to get some more room. I shifted a few times with the bike off just to test the clearance. When to fire up the bike and I get a LOUD KLACK KLACK KLACK. Am I screwed here fellas? I doubt its the battery because all the light come on and such...maybe it is the battery...i dont know.

UPDATE::

I think it is the battery actually...now when its in neutral and I flip the on switch to on...nothing. I guess there is no way to charge this sucker huh?

take off your seat the battery should be right there not totally familiar with lightning models but it should be right there ready to be charged =P

I know this is an old thread, but what if the rod will not turn? I tried spraying some PB Blaster onto the rod and even used pliers (with rubber wrapped around the rod to protect it) but I cannot get it to budge. I have some new riding boots I havent been able to wear for a month or two now because they cant fit under my shift lever lol. I tried to look in my factory service manual but there isnt really any info in it on adjusting. The one time it mentions it is when it says to put Loctite on it when reassembling the primary cover/clutch.

real easy way.
Take off both of the allen head bolts. The one to the adapter on the shifter shaft and the one on the shifter itself. Then twist it off the bike

I would like to lower mine down (I'm tall). I have to lift my entire foot off the peg to downshift, so it's been kind of a pain in the ass.

I tried to lower it just now and I have come across 2 problems:

1.) The kickstand handle has potential to get in the way. There's about 1" of horizontal clearance that the shifter sticks out past the kickstand peg - not very much room for a bulky foot or boot to come up from the bottom and hit it consistently. Also once, I accidentally downshifted to 1st instead of putting the kickstand down. Luckily it just jumped a little and killed the bike, but it had some bad potential there. Could probably move the kickstand peg to a different location on the kickstand? But I don't know how to weld or have access to a welder, so that would be a chore.

2.) When it is down low, the angle of leverage doesn't have enough travel or something. It gets "stuck" in the down position and doesn't fully shift. Can this be adjusted using that shifter axle knob that goes into the transmission? I don't feel comfortable messing with that unless I really know how to calibrate it and set it. Am I overcomplicating it?

(Lowering the brake pedal on the other side of the bike was easy)

I put XBs pegs on my bolt, and I adjusted the shifter to where I think it needs to be but I feel like it's really firm now. It hurts my toe after an hour of riding...
