I have a 2003 xb9 and I've been having trouble w/ the needle on the speedometer working sporadically. Sometimes it works fine and others its not working. It will periodically just stop working while I'm riding.
Any ideas of how to fix this? What kind of part would I need?
Thanks!

loose connections? check the wires, make sure there is no water corrosion. It sounds like you might need a whole new unit.

Most likely a speed sensor. Mine failed a couple years ago. There's other threads on this. Popular problem. Its' held in by one bolt near your front pulley. Download a manual from the top of the page and that will help.
Why do they fail? It's just a sensor.. Permanent magnet pulse generator type, magnets get weak when subjected to heat and vibration. Most times these sensors work well at speed but not so good at slow speed. Hope you get it solved. :) Chris

Roger!
I'll try replacing it. Hopefully I can find unit somewhere to replace it.
Thanks for the help!

Ande just try cleaning the contact points first. If that doesn't work then ASB sells one.
