Hey all,

First post here. I've been looking to buy a Buell XB12 for a long time and was heartbroken when HD cut the Buell line.

I live in Guam, and I've seen a total of 2 Buells here, and no parts.

I've seen several really nice bikes for sale online but nobody willing to ship to the island. I've decided instead to build a bike from parts.

Wondering if there's a full list of parts anywhere? I'd choose a 2009 or 2010 depending on what parts are more plentiful.

Anyhow, I'm looking for advice. I'm patient looking for parts, but where should I start? I know it's going to be a real undertaking but I love this sort of challenge.

Thanks!

I think here (http://buellsterparts.com/) would be a good place to start. And Ebay.

That site is a great resource Magic, thanks! eBay has some gorgeous bikes, not horrible prices either. I wish it was easier to get a bike shipped. More, I wish I'd bought before coming out here!

Thanks again!

Good luck with your build, you'll have endless ways to personalize it along the way.

Isn't the shipping going to be hell for you? I have no knowledge of the shipping rates to where you are, but it would seem like by the end of things you would wind up paying more once all the shipping adds up than to have a used one crated up from say some place like Hawaii? Theres a few Buellers in Hawaii I think. Maybe they could provide some info on how they got their bikes? Just a thought.

If you have an air force connection you could have it flown out to you on a c-17.
Not that I've done that or anything.
Just in case the air force asks any of you.

lawl.

Good luck with your build man.

have you talked with individual sellers or HD or other dealers , or buy it and arange the shipping yourself with an international shipper in a crate , that would be alot cheaper than shipping on tons of parts.

here is a google search for shipping overseas.

Unfortunately, no. But that would be a cool site to see!

The way I see it, buying the parts individually at low prices and then shipping them over cheaply shouldn't run up any more of a bill tha shipping a complete bike. The trick is getting them at low prices though.

I'll keep looking for the perfect bike to buy, but in the event I can't find one soon, how would you recommend I start with this project?

My inclination would be to develop a rolling chassis first - frame, wheels, fork. Something I could literally roll out of the way if I need to. Then go with the engine, transmission, exhaust, then the brakes and electronics, and finally the fairings.

Anything that comes in worn or scraped or chipped, I'll refurb it before adding it to the bike. This will be a Frankenstein bike for sure, but as long as it's not afraid of fire, I think it should be okay :)

Sorry, that reply was meant for Levi.

Thanks for the shipping links Native. Shipping something out here is actually not the hard part. It's usually (from what I've seen) getting someone to take the bike or car or whatever is it and getting it to the shipping point. I'll give it a try though. There's a nice looking XB12R on eBay right now that I'm waiting on a shipping reply for.

I think you'll want the swing arm, shock, forks/ triples, frame, engine, and rims with the axels for a rolling chasis, I think the engine helps stabilize the swing arm so it'd need to be in there for a roller, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Renovak, there are many ways to do this but the simple way is to purchase the bikes [Parts Manual] that you want first. The [Manual] has the Complete Break down of the Whole Bike.Parts Numbers also in the Exploded View Showing almost in detail. Then the Service Manual.NOW sometimes the Part numbers will be changed but take the notes and Make sure by researching every item before to keep the Cost down. I commend you for wanting to build your own bike. It could take you a while that way, AND Buellister AND American Sportbike.com- would be the good way to go on that. I figure maybe the 2006-2007 bikes would be easy for using ECM SPY for working on the Electronics AND diagnostics when you need to upgrade and the XB12R is a good choice. The 2008 and up bikes need different Tuner options. But not to Worry theres something for those also. Plenty of Bikes on e-bay, also private owners as well. The (wear) items like wheel bearings, primary tranny cover, steering bearings, seals, gaskets, oils, Brakes, tune ups and too much to list right now.The Manuals-Frame ,swing arm ,forks,AND Engine would be on the first list.Have fun with your build. Welcome to the forum.~Jimi[up]

Frankenstein bikes are awesome[up]

Here is my bike and just mentioning the major components I have a 2007 XB9R, that is the frame anyway, '09 Ss swing arm, '07 forks, '09 rear spring, '05 tail section, '03 motor (only original/unmodified piece), then tons of other parts bought new and or made custom to complete my build.

I will have including the original $3700 cost of the bike about $8k into my bike which yes is much more than what I can buy an even newer bike for now but not nearly as personalized and modified.

You guys rock. And that bike is wicked xtremelow.

Okay, I think my path is set at this point. Frame, swing arm, forks, engine this year is my goal. Patience will be key here :)

I'll post pics as I get them!

Thx.
