I just noticed that the guy I bought my bike from evidently shaved down the velocity stack.( will post pics as soon as I can). Anyone know why he would do this? Or where I can get a new one if needed?

Weird. Not sure it would have any effect as it appears to be at tuned length. [confused]

Yeah, would guess it's for increased airflow...but would need a specific tune. Do you know what filter and/or ecm he was using with it?

Probably because he was an idiot. Yes it's needed and it's proven. [sad] You should replace it. I had an extra, but I'm not sure where it went.

change it, it was made that way for a reason. also there are/is an aftermarket one but it is expensive.

it still has the stock ecm, but i put a K&N airfilter in it. i am already looking for a replacement, i found one somewhere but i don't remember.

Looks like he cut the curved portion of the top which is supposed to decrease turbulence as air enters the throttle body. I'd replace it. Actually shortening (not just trimming off the chamfer) the velocity stack, should decrease torque at the low end, but be better for the low end iirc. Might be the other way around.

Most car audio nuts would also agree that this is bad - think ported and/or bandpass boxes ;)

[down] Replace it, it's not gaining a damn thing, but hurting.

It's a one piece Velocity Stack He (last owner/?)cut the Flair cone off of it.This will actually interupt a smooth air flow.Your Bike will be better off with a new one. At least it will be an easy fix.Just 4-27 Torx, pull the bottom plate up and remove the Clamp.Might want to stuff a Clean Rag in it, before you work on it. [sad]

reason #1 why everybody should take fluid mechanics, the world would be a better place.:D

or better yet - #1 reason why people that have never taken fluid mechanics should not mess with anything involving the matter!

now the million dollar question....anyone know where I can get one? I checked buellster parts but they are out of stock, american sportbike.com didn't have any. I guess I could check harley stealership but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, unless there is a perfomance style out there. Any suggestions?

All should be the same.

Most of the Velocity Stacks are very close, the older XB9 has a Very slight shape difference on it at the top. I can't seem to grasp the reasoning behind the way the Stack was altered and what for. But all being said they will all work. And look so cool too! Form and Function that is a Buell.`Jimi

I ordered the stack from ebay, the one for the 12. but it is bigger on the bottom than mine, and mine has two small allen head bolts that hold it into a brace. the one for the 12 doesn't.

"I thought it looked better chopped off, plus it gives the air a shorter distance to the piston return springs, which should increase back pressure giving me more horsepower."
