View Full Version : Does your belt squeak?

...when it is warm? When I am done riding, and I am wheeling the bike back to it's parking spot, the belt will squeak. Only going forward, not backward. Not loud enough to hear when it is running, and only after a good ride. It appears to be rubbing against the inner flange of the rear pulley, at the bottom. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, my current belt squeaks when I push the bike, regardless if the bike has been ridden or sat.
I am changing my belt now while I get new rubber put on, so we'll see if the new one squeaks at all. The belt is getting old, and I didn't notice any unusual wear...

This is an '06 XB9r with about 2200 miles
here is the back of the belt/pulley, to show where it rides on the pulley:

here is the inside edge of the belt:

I don't see anything that looks like odd wear, but this is the only belt driven bike I have ever had.

mine doesn't currently, but I do remember it squeaking at one point in time. It must've been further to one side before, and it must've moved slightly.

If I roll the bike no engine running, I can hear the pulley some and check the play every 300miles. There is belt dressing but be careful with it . You could mark the belt and slowly rotate it with the swingarm on a pitt stand. Might want to check the bearings while you have it up. And the pulley. Dang belts are Expensive. Good Luck.

My 03' lightning squeaked for the last couple years too. Only when rolling it into or out of the car-hole.( "garage" for you fancy guys)
Replaced belt last month just for peace of mind. New belt does not squeak. ;)

My XB does that. I have 52,000 miles on the original belt. It's been doing that since probably around 10,000. No issues to date.

That's impressive. 52,000 miles... Thats awesome. Post some pics of your bike. I hope I get at least that much out of my bike.

I guess it is not out of the ordinary. When I first heard it, I thought either my brake was dragging or my bearings were going out. I had to put it on the stand immediately after a ride to check it out. If I waited long enough for it to cool down, the noise was gone.

Dog, would post some, but there seems to be something going on with my bike right now that I can't quite pin down. Currently it's in pieces.

Mine squeaks a tad when rolling it in the garage sometimes. I don't think there is an issue with that mine still runs and rides fine but I am not 100% sure
