what does everyone say? yay or nay? need to do it or not? ruin my muffler if i don't? been running mine a while and haven't done it at all

it will eventually fall apart at the rivets if you don't.
i have to repack mine about every 4K miles.
takes about 20 minutes and costs $20

for my next repack, i'm going to try to use stainless mesh instead of the fiberglass to see if it lasts longer..

GoDuc-----Last time I heard your bike it sounded good, remember it wasn't as loud as the Jardine on my old TT that only had about 3000 miles on it. [confused]

im pretty sure it had something to do with your bike, it idled higher than mine for some reason

i may just switch to the drummer-----because this sounds pretty frikin mean

vid

seems like around 80 or so the jardine has a higher pitched "brap" sound to it, that deeper rumble is pretty sweet

If i'm not mistaken , a Drummer is made the same way as a Jardine except in a stock can. That exhaust in that video isn't a Drummer. If you want some noise get a Hawk. I'll be deaf in two weeks after hearing mine!

you sure thats not a drummer?? or it may be a hawk. i think its the drummer they make for you out of the stock muffler, you know like the non SS model

and i have to fidn the happy medium between loud and expense of horsepower, i don't want it to be loud and lose power. need/want to wake the dead--and run top notch also

I spent $12 bucks on two 6 packs of course stainless steel wool balls at a pool chemical supply shop and streched 8 them around the inner tube of the jardine (double layering them) and stuffed it all back together and used self tapping screws to hold it all together instead of rivets, actually made it have a deeper better tone and have had no problems with it since

i get the packing at my local bike shop (Libbys in New Haven, CT) i use the FMF packing and it is about $25 out the door with tax.

I've also used the packing from Jardine and it is $27 + shipping which ended up being another $17 for a total of $44 and i never bought it again.

I've had my Jardine GP1 for about 12K now and I've repacked it 3 times already and every time when the packing wears out, the vibrations shear the can at the rivets and i have to cut off 1/4" of the can and re-drill the rivet holes. Luckily i have access to a full shop with metal tools so no problem.

I would say i have maybe about 4 more repacks left b4 i have to figure out a more pemanent solution or i will run out of material on the can after the rear strap.

Buy quality packing and use QUALITY STAINLESS RIVETS (NOT ALUMINUM!)
the factory jardine rivets and end caps are stainless, the problem is the aluminum or carbon fiber body models, the rivets work their way through the softer body material. When i repacked mine with the stainless steel wool i used high heat sealant on the end caps (for better seal and to help prevent vibration at the joint) and 5/16 self tapping screws (to pull the material together and make it simpler to take back apart for next repack) but have had no negative affects and seems like the steel wool is holding up alot better than the fiberglass.

Exactly what Klan said! The aluminum can wears down, not the rivets.
However, next time I repack I will be going with coarse stainless mesh and a Hi-temp sealant around the end cap overlap joint.

I think mine also is more prone to wear because I have the GP muffler with that long overhang of stainless pipe putting leverage on the joint.

Anyway, whenever I get tired of repacking I'm just gonna buy a nice full stainless straight through style muffler and get it welded to the Jardine elbow and tail section! No more need for repacks then!

I used a moto cross repack kit. Cost 12$ super easy install. Mine had like 12,000 miles on it maybe?? I heard it should be done every 5k. So I did it. The front of it was pretty burnt/ brittle. Not too bad but could tell it should be done.

Ahhhh! i'm bias,go with the drummer, the Sound is great plus it's Track tested. Kevin Drummer at KD Fabrication(Hickory North Carolina) Does a good job. It's In the American Sportbike .com challenge, You can send him the orignal Exhaust Can. Most think it's TOO Much for a muffler but I have Seen where guys/gals have bought way less Quality for higher.OR less quality for cheap. A BAD muffler can Turn your bike into a Oil burner. Then it sounds Like a Friggin Chain Saw going down the Road OR a Tin can muffler. [ME] I like the Sound the Drummer SS Stainless has plus it looks great 2.5 years later.Never needs Painting. If you want Old School sound with about 4 more horses Well There you go. Sounds like a small block Monster . Yeah, I may be Bias but I have a shop and know what works for the long term & is Bad for my Business, But I'll get over it. I like the FULLY made in the USA By an American. The Randy Hawk Exhaust I hear is a good value if your on a budget. As long as you break in the Muffler of ANY Bike easy for about 100miles they will last pretty well.If it has packing in it. But I promise you Nothing Sounds Like A Drummer.Even the Econo[stock can]Drummer is good.Bolts right back on. If you go with Drummer give it some time to break in and you'll get more out of it. Than bolt on and Rev., the Crap out of it. You can do that later. This will let the Packing set and also Last a lot longer.Good luck and have fun with whatever your choice is ~Jimi[up]
