I just put stock headers and a carbon Jardine on this 03 XB12R I bought off a kid for almost nothing...few miles later it started to run rough and backfire and all that. I got to get this thing re-mapped to my new set up. Thing is, he told me he had a "race computer" in it, whatever that is.. here is my question, How do I find out if my ECM is stock or not and should I just take the thing to Harley and have them re-map it for me or should I get one of those ecmspy things? If you tell me where to look, I think I should be able to tell you what kind of computer this thing is running and we can go from there.

if it is a race ecm it will be marked like this one.if its stock with a remapp you will need to look at the maps and compare

It's behind the front fairing. Very easy to find. If you need a manual, you can download it from this site here (see links at the top) or mods.buellxb.com.

I wouldn't pay Harley to do it btw.

its wierd though, I put the stock headers and the jardine on there and it ran like a bat of hell for a few miles then next time I turned the bike on, it ran like ****...and there was the wierdest noise..it sounds like the fuel pump is running like during the start up but at about 1/3 the volume level..maybe its bc before this and i was running what came with the bike, Ti-Force open x-pipe and it was loud..but I never noticed that sound before, can you hear something that sounds like a fuel pump gentlty wirring away????

I think you're going to have to do more troubleshooting on your end before I (or many of the more knowledgeable people on here) can give you a good, solid starting point.

More symptoms, play by play - any information can help. Be sure that when you try to explain things, go in a logical sequence (if that makes sense).

Im going back in there to look again.. maybe when I put those stock headers back in. the O2 sensor wire could be up agianst that header pipe..maybe it got burned through or something.. Ill come back when I know more.. I ran out of daylight over here..Ill do it tomorrow. It ran really good, alot of crisp trottle response and it sounded good, pulled real strong at the bottom end..then next time I started it it was back firing, sputtering and felt suggish and weak..felt like it was running rich, at the same time I noticed a sound that sounds like the fuel pump running but not as loud as during intial start up..but that could have been there before, I just dont know.

damn, he said "race computer"..lets see if he told me the truth.
you can remap the race ecm IF you send the ecm back to ebr have it unlocked and buy their 500.00 program package.so not really an option for most.

would the race computer run well with a Jardine on a stock header?
The last owner had a Ti-force x-pipe full exhaust..the muffler was crushed back even before I got it and he was running the headers "open" ..he said the bike had a "race computer" in it. I then put a stock header and a carbon Jardine in place of the open header..it ran really well for about 5 or 6 miles, then it started to run like crap..it feels like its running too rich..

no jardine is close to the d&d wich is what i have.race ecm had a large flat spot, lots of deccel popping and idle problems.i could reset the tps and it would be good for a couple of rides then bad again reset the tps and good again.ebr has a ecm tuned for jardine that has gotten good results.none of the ebr ecms are tunable with out their program kit.the last i heard you could send in your race ecm and they would retune it for your setup for around 40.00 bucks
