hi peeps i just wanted to get some insight on potential buell i may be getting. Its a 2003 buell xb9r with 14k. All the maintenance has seemed to been done in a orderly fashion. It has a race ecm, jardine pipe, k&n filter, drop pegs, frame pucks, and wrapped pipes. I just recently sold my tl1000r and ive been recently hooked on vtwins. I know this bike isnt as fierce as the tl, but i like the weight difference and the look is unique to me. I'm not really into going for top speed, but i would just rather have functionality and reliability. My question is, is their a big difference in feeling and power between the xb9r and the xb12r. Because at first i was looking at the 12r's, but then i came across this xb9r tht was looking good...so im kinda torn. I'm also thinking bout the rc51's as well, but not sure if i want to deal with a big weighted bike again. Thx guys in advance

welcome to the forum.imo get a 12 but i have never heard the guys with 9s complain about them.

'03 was the 1st year for the XB. a lot of upgrades followed until '08. good thing about '08 is u can reset the throttle position sensor manually vs using a computer.

the xb9 doesn't have the exhaust valve actuator like the xb12 does, easier for the pipe,hi-flo,race computer combo

i've got a '07 xb9r and it is a daily driver. carves like u wouldn't believe, as well as the xb12

the xb9 has higher revs, and quick top-end torque too.

if the price is right, could be a good deal. i would have it fully serviced though, just to be on the safe side [up]

asking price for the xb9r is 3900, it has new paint, i wa thinking about offering like 3500, but there is also a xb12r for sale for 4200, 5kmiles...hmmm

i would get the 12 its newer less milage.300.00 more for 9k less milage and 3 years newer i wouldnt even consider the 9

but i have never heard the guys with 9s complain about them.

I complain about mine all the time haha. I still love my bike, but coming from a 600cc sportbike I expected so much more power, I can't even imagine coming from something like a TLR. I'd definitely go for the xb12, especially at that price difference.

Aight, is the xb12 a noticable difference of power compared to the 9r? I'm going to test ride the 9r today or tomorrow

I have a 9.

for that price difference and year difference, get the 12.

I was in a similar position --- and I bought the 9 though.... so what does that tell you?

I don't think they have a huge power difference when it comes to normal riding, but there's a bit of a difference if you like your front wheel coming off the ground. I have to goose my throttle a little and give it a handful of gas with help from the front suspension to really get my front wheel up(I avoid clutching it up). A 12 will just power itself up from throttle alone. That's really my only complaint. If I didn't like wheelies I wouldn't have 1 single complaint about the bike.

Definately a better deal on the 12! Thats the way id go[up]. Keep us informed and post pics asap if you buy!:)

ok well i just went to go look at the 9...and i must say......its immaculate. The owner is a race car builder and he took amazing care of this bike. IT looks like it has 0 miles on it. He has all the maunuals and tools tht came with the bike. He also has a battery tender system wired in it. I t has a custom paint job(cafe racer theme) and it is flawless. Pics dont do its justice but i will post some in a few. I hvent bought it yet, but im leaning towards the 9 right now. The bike was tuned and dynoed. It put out 85hp and 69tq i think, i need to look at the sheet again, but he also said tht it wasnt a max tune. He just wanted a lil bit more pep and the tuner said it has room for more power if needed. pipes are wrapped and the exhaust just sounds amazing coming from this machine..i think im in love lol pics soon

What about registration. Any legal hickups to get our license plate over there?

Here in Europe it would be a pain under your ass.
