Hello I am new to the buell world. I recently picked up a 2005 xb12r. It has about 17k miles on it. It looks clean. I buffed it and didn't see any scrapes or indications it's been dropped. To get to my concern, it seems to be difficult to shift into 2nd from 1st. It really gives me trouble when I flog it in 1st. Is this normal for a HD? I owned an 06 sv650s before and it shifted like butter. I wasn't sure if it was normal or something serious. Any input would be appreciated!

welcome to the forum, hard to tell how yours is but these are much stiffer than other bikes

Mine does some of it too, just a rougher shift sometimes, welcome to the site!

Thanks from the warm welcome! I guess I'll keep a watch on it. Perhaps it's just an old school tranny I'm not used to. After all ever other gear shifts flawless....

try changing the trans /primary oil to a good 20-50 synthtic amsoil mobile one.
you have to roll of the throttle sum to grab the next gear and yes there kinda clunky.
welcome to the forum

welcome to the forum and to the BUELL Family. yes buell can be clunky at times when shifting, but to shift in to 1st gear you need to at a slow slow speed and rolled off the throttle and clutch pulled in ALL the way and when shifting down or up also roll OFF the throttle too, with clutch in all or most of the way in.
You will love the 2005 Buell XB12R Firebolt , I know I have one too.

oh and remember it's a BUELL not a HD !!!!

Hey thanks for those links! I think I'm gonna change my trans oil like RTPerformance said. We will see what happens!

Grab you a Service manual off the download at the top of this page or Buellmods.com so you'll have it for the general maintenance stuff. Also, there's a DIY video of how to adjust the clutch in the Primary, very easy - or it's in the Service manual too. Might as well do that while you're changing the fluids. Welcome to the Board.
