My 03 Xb9R, which I purchased from a private seller last summer has been idling a little rough at start up, and then as I ride the bike for a little while it sounds like its struggling to run and at idle the bike begins to jump to 1.5 to 2 rpms.

It's at about 11.5k miles. The problem first began at the end of last summer but after I shut the bike off and let it cool down it was fine for a few weeks, but it happened as soon as I started it up for the beginning of this season.

I changed the plugs the other day and that didnt help, I put a little fuel injector cleaner in the tank as well but it doesn't seem to be helping. Harley is supposed to come out tomorrow to take it out to the dealer but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for some last minute stuff I could try before Harley sucks away this college student's entire budget for the summer...

the tps reset will def. help with the high idle after warm up. and i would do plug wires 2 def. doesn't hurt.

I apologize, but...."tps reset"? Are you referring to that screw ? I thought that behind that was just a gauge of where the timing is set, and to change it you needed to take off that plate thats riveted on there and then it had to be done digitally. But I might just be a moron and not know how to read my manual... [confused]

Just looked into it. I don't have access to ECMSpy, I think at this point ill need to just take it in and pray to God the service fee isn't as high as what I think it will be.

Additional note: The bike starts up and sounds fine, but after revving it a few times, it gets a sort-of clicking sound to it. After riding for a bit, and the idle gets high, this clicking noise is louder and faster. Any input?

You can download the ECMSpy program HERE. You can order a cable off of Xoptiinside.com or Ebay. And the manual is also a free download off of ECMSpy.com. Everything you need to do your own TPS reset.

- Also a video on here showing the entire process. ;)

Edit: Might check your Ignition timing, very easy. In the service manual under the "Maintenance" section

Great, thanks for all the advice. Cannot express how helpful this website is, about to order my cable right now.
