I'm starting the research on a bike I have in mind. I always start research before I make the first big leap. The buying of the bike/car. I'm definitely getting a 2003-07 Firebolt XB9R. I'm needing some help with the best engine upgrades though. I've found the NRHS 994cc Stage 1 engine kit. I'd like to keep it under 1000cc. Now I'm needing help with the rest of the components and I'm not sure where to begin or what to look for. It's gonna be my first build. Any contributions are appreciated.[confused]

Just out of pure curiosity, why are you looking to buy an xb9 and dump $1000 into it when you can just buy an xb12? A lot of people say there isn't much of a difference between the xb9 and xb12 motor, so I'd imagine you'd barely feel an extra 10cc.

I'm not familiar with any NHRS kit, but that sounds like a fix for some scorched pistons and cylinders, where your cylinders can take a slight overbore and clean up. And I'll leave any discussion of the Nikasil treatment to the experts.

the 9 has a shorter stroke motor and revs high. technically it can be made faster than the 12. but just doing tht size kit you should just buy a 12. now if ur going to go big do the 1350cc kit and switch to chain drive thats a different story. then its perfectly understandable to go for 9 for more top end. just my input. if goin less expensive buy a 12 put cams in. tune and ur good

Every time this topic comes up people say "I wanted the 9 because it revs higher and has the potential to make more power" but I've never seen a single person but so much work into a 9 that the extra 400rpm actually has an affect. The same amount of cash and work put into an xb12 would still leave it with a lot more torque than a 9.

My reasoning behind the 9 as opposed to the 12 is that I wanting to take it up a step. I'm currenty on a Blast and I'd like to stay under 1kcc. I'm not really worried about the difference in RPM range at this time. I'm sure that I'll end up visiting my old trade school's machine shop to remake the sleeves and heads out of titanium before it's done with. Basically I'm wanting the best bike, period. As far fetched as it may seem I'm planning a turbo setup and NOS if it all works out. It might not after I start the math so some things might be dropped and new things might be added. But, for now I'm looking at the NHRS. I will be looking into the rev perf though.
