2004 xbr12r oil pump

I am replacing the oil pump gear because my shop guy cannot get to it for several weeks. I have received the replacement gear i ordered. based on another post i found i drained the oil, dropped the muffler disconnected the oil lines and dropped the oil pump.(the gear on the end has some gouges not good i would assume). Before i take the side case off is their anything i should do?

if your oil pump gear has gouges you should be checking your oil pump drive gear and your cams, the metal pieces went somewhere, if you look at my thread it screwed everything in it for me

Thanks, the oil pump gear and the gear on the cam are damaged

So I am planning on removing the engine their is no other way around it?
