Ok here is some pictures of swingarm plate mounts. I would really like to have one one made. I used to want the Rizoma one really bad, then I found a picture of the second style on ebay and I am leaning to that more now. Any makers let me know.http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/4087_20110619085707_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/4087_20110619085603_L.jpghttp://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/4087_20110619085841_L.jpg

I need to know more about how that gets attached to the swing arm. Is it just pinched behind the spacer? Do they supply a shorter spacer to allow this? I can't find a Rizoma link anywhere for this. Do they still make them?

I don't have an answer to your question. However, I would be willing to drill and tap my swing arm to accommodate this. If that is of any interest to you 5-0

Thanks for the feedback Jake! I'd be hesitant to ask folks to mod their swing-arms for liability reasons. Sounds like one of those things that would give a lawyer a heart attack!:D If anyone has some better pics of this I'd love to see them! Let me chew on this for a while...I might be able to come up with something creative...

5-0 just went outside to look at the swing arm. I have two more Ideas.
1)Use it in conjunction w/ your sliders. Make them flat and let the sliders go through the bracket and add a lip on the bracket so that it wont slip. (I am not sure if that makes any sense)
2)Dunno if it has to do with liability issues but make a single armed bracket that screws into the two holes on the right side of the swing arm where the belt guard went.

I have pics drawn out of how they attach but I have no scanner. If you can PM an address I will send copies to you. Round with a pinch is pretty much it though. No they don't make it anymore they stopped in 2006, but I have a magazine that has several good pics of it and I drew out pretty much the whole thing. It is actually two pieces.

Jake: Good ideas...Thanks!
1) I think I follow what you're saying. I'll look into it. Plus it pushes sales on my sliders! :D
2) Not a bad idea although I think it would look better on the left since there's less going on over there. The other concern would be that the swing arms changed a few times across the years and models. It would be difficult to create a "one size fits all" solution doing this.
crx: I'll PM you! Thanks for that! I wonder why they discontinued it? Poor sales? Design flaw? That's one heck of a lever arm!

how about if it mounted to the outside of the swingarm and the 50 dro slider locked it on?? that would be an almost universal fit and sell some sliders too!

Definitely a good idea, but I'd have to come up with a way to keep it from rotating. I'm afraid there's not enough "pinch" on the sliders to keep the bracket from rotating...
***General note: Please don't take my replies as defensive or argumentative. I'm not trying to shoot down ideas but I need to flush out all the ways that these design might fall short of your expectations. In the end, designing around these pitfalls is what make's a 5-0dro product worth owning. I don't want to deliver anything but the best to you guys (& girls)! I really appreciate all the dialog! Please keep it coming![cool]

hey dro you could make one side of the slider set notched to fit into the axle and that way it would hold the plate mount in place because the mount would also be notched like a hex key.

wouldn't the bracket act like a wrench, loosening your axle, if it was keyed to it, I have been for 2 years trying to come up with a way to tow a trailer with mine, I am interested in finding a way to make it capable of carrying me and all the shhtuff she wants to bring, yes, I am married

no it wouldn't loosen it. here's why. only one side would insert into the axle. You would tighten the sliders and the bracket by tightening the slider on the opposite side..

I'm not sure exactly what the numbers are, but a 14" cheater bar will break just about any nut loose.

I did the pinch method with an old bracket and had it rotate on my even though I thought the axle sliders were plenty tight, the vibration of the bike is what rotates the bracket.
I would advise against the pinch point method as it is anything but reliable for a production type upgrade/mod.
Instead why not utilize the two upper belt guard mounts on the other side and just make a sweeping bracket to match the seat angle, you could just use a slightly longer bolt to retain the guard if needed..... Just a thought.

The belt guard side is the hollow side, right, I don't trust any vertical loading on the mounts designed to hold on the <.5 pound hugger plastic thing they called a fender

I agree xtreme...I wouldn't want to rely on a pinch alone, especially if the mount will hold the plate behind the tire. Leverage and vibration are not a good combination. ;)
