so I got my baby back together and finally got the timing set, so I fired her up... and.. the damn noise is still there, despite changing the crapped out cams, bad pump and bad pump drive gear as well as getting all the little pieces out... FML

so tomorrow after work I'm headed back out to the garage to unplug all my wires and take the engine out again.. this time we're gonna take everything off and crack the case apart to see what bearing is off or why my rods may have play in them

Sorry to hear this buddy. I just got mine together and would be cringing to pull it apart again. Best of luck to you, at least these bikes are really easy to build/break down.

Take lots of pics and keep us updated.

good news, for whatever reason I decided to start her up after I got home from work and she runs like a d*mn champ! I'll post pics after I get her dressed again, we had some fun running around naked today before the storm hit

Great news man! What do you think was making the noise after the rebuild? Did you crank the motor for oil pressure before starting it after the rebuild? I know mine was a bit noisy on the first start even after building oil pressure and getting the light to turn off because it has to push oil to the heads.

Either way, good to hear this. Ride on!

I thought I had, but I guess letting it sit overnight let the pressure push the oil where it needed to be, it made the noise for about 3 seconds and then it stopped and I took her for a much needed ride

Hey, got your old pump and made one good one out of our two bad ones! Just got done 1/2 hour ago putting it on, and buttoning up everything. XB984R fired right up without any red lights. Woo-Hoo! Sure did make a racket at first, like a piston was going to shoot out the side of the cylinder! Ha! Took her around the block a couple of times. No issues noted. Now to take a good shower and wash the sweat and motor oil off me. It is still around 90 degrees outside. Had an old window fan blowing on me while I worked! Glad to hear your bike is OK. What happened to your bike, FireinXB?

fireinxb was rebuilding one I believe, and I finally got mine all back together tonight. I just got back from a 40 minute ride without any cel. I have a headlight out and my primary is a tiny bit tight but that's an easy fix lol.

hey, no problem man. I'm glad someone got some use out of it after I thought it was a goner.
and as for the issues it's only little stuff now, and I just need to stop by and pick up a new H3 bulb and then loosening the primary tensioner is cake
