Any of you race guys know what size sprockets I need to increase my top end? I'm going with a 1475cc motor so I'm not too worried about losing torque as I'll still have plenty. I just purchased a kit with a 23 front and 54 rear and those seem to be huge? I'm not building a track bike, but would still like to have usable power without my front end flying up everytime i think about twisting the throttle.

Smaller driven sprocket will lower your gear ratio, raising your top end,to find out what the ratio will be, just divide, 54/23=2.347
52/23=2.260
50/23=2.173

not an appreciable amount, it was probly as close to stock as they could get with the chain and sprocket, most chain raio changers move a minimum of 2 teeth, as in my example math

interesting, so I would need to drop to a 48-50tooth in the rear to have a drastic increase in top end. Thanks, I just learned something today.[up]

I wouldn't jump that far, you are looking at making 1st gear pretty tall, unless you have some one give you a push off at every redlight/stop sign

lower ratio, taller top end, a 48 tooth rear sprocket would probly stretch 1st out to 50 mph, but not able to pull away from stop with out burning the clutch up

damn, this seems pretty trickey. guys must make a pretty penny figuring out things like this.

you need to just take small steps, drop 2 teeth at next change, ride it till next change drop 2 more, do it till you have the top end, or maximized the new torque you want.
