Hey Gents,
Happy 4th of july, and I hope all is well.

On another note, I have recently been putting alot of thought into removing the top of my airbox. There are people on both sides of the fence, claiming that this mod can harm your bike, where there are others claiming increase in power, as well as the bike being louder. I haven't quite been able to find a "how to" thread on the airbox mod, and I am not sure what all the removal of the topmof the airbox entails. any opinions on the subject of airbox modification as well as a how-to thread would be greatly appreciated. I am skeptical on this mod, but if there are benefits to it, I may do this myself. If there are negative effects on the stock ecm, please enlighten me! :) Thank you very much for your time, and have. great day!

Are you talking about the filter air box, or the outer cover? there are several discussions about both here. The wide open filter airbox mod does not particularly appeal to me, my 'O8XT 12 has a relatively open filter box, and it is kinda noisy, not good growly noisy, intake vacuum noisy.

Outer airbox, folks have done all kinds of things to them, from hood scoops to screened in emblems, where they have taken the emblems on the cover, cut them out of the plastic, and then screened em in, that was one I liked.

okkay, i mis spoke. i mean the modification in which you remove the layer below the false tank, which reveals the air filter itself. if it helps, i have a 2009 1125r. I just removed this inner airbox, and placed the false tank cover on top of the filter, so the middle layer is removed. i would just like to know if there are any negatives to doing this modification, like ecm problems for example. thanks

Does it work the same on an 1125? I've seen the inside of those airboxes but I can't remember at all what they look like. I can tell you that it makes a ton of extra noise on my xb and I didn't really care for it. It was cool for the novelty with the transparent airbox cover, but that wore off.

did you notice any change in the rideability of the bike? any changes in power? i can imagine it is similar to the xb. let me know what you think of it :)

There will actually be a loss in power if the air box is left open. The volume of the air box is painstakingly engineered for maximum power and removing it changes that volume of air and pressure. It will be louder, and may seem a bit peppier down in the lower RPMs, but that will quickly fall off as speed increases.

Proven on the drag strip, increased ETs. Discussed in great detail over on BadWeb.

I'd just leave it on :)

Alright, ima go throw it back on. plus, the jardine exhaust i just had put on it drowns anying else out anyway! sounds great!

I had the same question about my Cr. 1125's use a ram air system and the intake is under the headlight. You want to cram as much air through that scoop as possible. Making an opening allowing air in elsewhere will take away for your horsepower.

But... But... But, it looks so PURTY! :)
I can say it is significantly louder, really hard to tell off the seat of my pants if I lost any power doing it. I'm going to just go ahead and agree with the previous posters and tell you to leave the inner airbox cover alone.

^^ DONE! :D Did it two weeks ago. Sounds like it wants to suck me into the velocity stack. Haven't noticed much power loss if any - but I haven't opened her up all the way either. Data logging runs are in the near future.

1125's are fast enough the way they are. An air box mod isn't going to make much of a difference for the daily drivers out there. I would do it because I think the intake noise sounds cool, but I'm not going to because I already have a K&N filter and I don't want to run too lean. Just keep an eye on your plugs; if they start to turn white, you're way too lean.

i opened up my airbox, the bike felt quicker with a better throttle response.

i just put my inner airbox back on yesterday because it was throwing me a check engine light with the inner box taken out and jardine rt45 exhaust installed. i put the cover back on, and no more check engine light for me! Plus, the jardine exhaust drowns out the intake noise anyway! good god it's loud!

Im going to get my bike on the dyno this weekend. can't wait to find out the AFV post airbox delete.
