I have used a jumper cable connecting the pins in locations 1 and 2. If this diagnostics process is accurate my bike has the trouble code 21 inter active muffler control. Has anybody encountered this problem before and if so how was it solved?

check for power and ground at the connector and see if it self tests when turnning the ign on.if it has power and ground but dosnt move during the self test its bad.it is plugged in right?

Where and what exactly is the interactive muffler control? I have never encountered problems with my XB before so some of this is new to me.

Does the end of the cable that goes to the muffler look like a clutch cable that runs through a 90 degree elbow? If so I noticed this cable when I did my first oil change on my XB. It has not been connected since I have owned the bike.

yes thats it but the cable will not set the code unless it stops the servo motor from turnning.a lot of people disconnect the cable when switching from the stock exhaust.most of the time its the servo thats bad.heres a diagram on how to make one or you can disable it with ecm spy

Just happened to me. The controller was not working.
Opened it up and found the gear had stripped. A very nice member sold me one and problem solved.
Test it by turning key to on position and open throttle the controller should rotate and open muffler valve.

My XB has the stock exhaust and the muffler side of the control cable was apparently disconnected by the previous owner. Does anyone think that if I connect the muffler side of the control this might eliminate the occasional engine light blinking?

I don't think the controller can tell if the cable is connected. Just that it is rotating the cable cam the proper distance.
One thing if the cable is disconnected is it being held in the open position? If not it would affect the performance

Mine throws occasional code 21 bcuz my cable is disconnected.(D&D exhaust) dealership fix was to put tension on the cable with a zip tie which works until the bikes really hot and the zip tie stretches.

remove the cable from the servo motor.takes about 5 mins

The cable is pulled taught on the air cleaner side. I plan on really digging into this tomorrow once my ST Machine Pig Spotters 2 come in. Is it strongly suggested that I go through and reconnect the cable to my muffler? In doing this will it promote better performance?

i have an 09 with d&d i removed the cable from the motor but left the motor/servo plugged in and had no light or codes ran it like that for 6 months until i made a emulator using this diagram

ic ic. I ran mine for a rear after installin the exhaust and never had a code. Then the next spring it threw a code on the first ride. In fact thats when i joined the forum.

What is the purpose of the interactive muffler control? Should I connect the muffler side to the muffler?

yeah. it changes the route through muffler the exhaust takes at different rpm and throttle ranges. with the valve closed it restricts the flow(ithnk thats how works ne way) but yeah by all means hook it up
