Hey guys hows it going. Ok so I'll be home from afghanistan in less than a month and I wanted to get a gear indicator for my bike before I got home. I know I don't need one but none the less I want one. I found one on this website http://www.acumen-electronics.co.uk/product/DG8_-_Custom_Colour_30113
Its a little on the high side but my real concern is will it work on my bike. Does anyone have one on there XB. If so where did you get it.
Thanks much.

Why not just count?

Or listen. Put enough miles on your bike and you can tell just by listening what gear your in. The only thing that screws me up is the fact that my old bike was a 6 speed.

I can't ride it enough to be able to do that. I work outside the country and im only home twice a year for less than a month. Like I said before I don't need one, I just want one.

I had an old Honda 750 that had one and I loved it. It had an actual fuel gauge too! I have thought about one, if I could find one that didn't look out of place. Let us know what you get.

My first street bike ever had one, '88 Suzuki gn250, no offense to the Buell but that was the smoothest riding bike ever, it was awesome, and the gear indicator was more useful than you would realize.

Some where in here somebody actully mounted one in there cluster.
I really like having one on my 1125r even though it doesn't display with the clutch in.

I had a talk with my father, hes been riding for over 30 years and he insisted that I not get one.
So case closed.

Just estimate based on your speed and RPMs. It's what I do on my car. After a while, it becomes very automatic.

If you really want one spend the money. However with my XB9SX and a drummer SS i can usually just hear what gear I'm in. I'm still wrong once in a while when the question is am i in 4th or 5th but really if your in 5th and try to up shift nothing happens anyway so really i don't see the point.

Either way happy hunting:)

These posts remind me that my '83 Honda Sabre 750 had electronic self-canceling turn signals, a gear indicator, a real fuel gauge, a fiber-optic alarm, lap timer, and the LCD instrument cluster worked as an electronic fault display :)

I have been pondering gear indicators from the following vendors but so far haven't felt it would be worth the trouble:
Acumen (http://www.acumen-electronics.co.uk/category/Gear_Indicators___Shift_Lights,b.html)
Motogadget (http://motogadget.com/digitalinstrumente/ganganzeige-sureshift/sureshift/sureshift.html)

I also want to get the motogadget mini, as seen here:

fiber-optic alarm

Ya personally all I care about is the rpms, and shift up or down from there.

All I ever really need is the neutral light, well one that works reliably.

Those sabres had some sweet features man! I had one too, the self cancelling turn signals were really nice, except mine had this like buildup drain that if you didn't drain out fairly regulary the self canceling wouldn't work.

Good call Frank... I drool on my pillow when dreaming about a motogadget. I prefer the moto-lite in black

Motogadget indicator is a small button with led display. Very clean looking.

fiber-optic alarm

What is this??

It was my first Bike, bought it used and somewhat beat up. It was pretty neat however.
From Cycle Guide, 1982:
LINK (http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Honda/honda_vf750%20sabra%2082.htm)

...High-tech also aptly describes the Sabre's F.O.I.L. (Fiber Optic Integrated Lock), the most sophisticated anti-theft system ever included as standard equipment on a motorcycle. It consists of a special steel security cable that plugs into a small self-powered control box on the left side of the bike. The cable has a light-transmitting fiber optic inside, and if it is cut or unplugged without first switching off the system with the ignition key, a loud beeper is activated. And since the system depends on the light passing through the fiber optic, the cable cannot be "jumped" with a piece of electrical wire

I am with you NwRider. If I were to ever really customize a bike it would have a Motoscope Pro gauge cluster. The EBR Typhoon 1190RR really does it for me, and I am much more into adventure / touring bikes than sport bikes:
EBR Typhoon 1190RR (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.463651222733.249586.178040577733)

Actually looking at the gauge picture on that link, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to fabricate a mount for that gauge... and then I think about the wiring... and cost... and the fact that it's been nearly 100 degrees in Chicago lately which makes stop and go riding so much fun.... okay I'll enjoy the bike I have for a while.

That Gauge is so sweet. Its like it was designed to go there.

For those who don't know the 1125 cluster is alot like that sabre.
Maintance reminder air temp ,water temp, volts, gear indacator, displays codes and even all sensor data in diag mode and a settable pin code alarm.
