Is this a CA model? Did you remove the canister?

Maybe fuel pump issue?

the null is what I removed and it worked.
 
i have no idea about the ca model and what canister? the one and only thing i did to this bike was open the exhaust valve other then that its bone stock as far as i know
 
That sounds familiar. I've had a million things replaced under warranty by the dealer to solve that (or a similar) issue. Sounds like its gone for me now, but I'm nervous. My bike (2009 XT) just did it again the other day.

Questions: model year? I'm guessing 2009. I've heard a lot about bad fuel pumps on the 2009s, I'm on my 3rd.

How many times will it do it before it runs smoothly? If you hop right on, does it require extra throttle to keep it smooth? Ever die shortly after taking off (like when @ a stoplight)? How much does your rpm wander when this happens? Mine wavered from anywhere near 1800 to 800 rpm before it would hiccup and die.

09 12r, did this seem to go away for a little after the pumps?
 
its word for word on your issue, but it wont die after i take its gets close but have never stalled
 
Wow, starts right up and idles good, right about to the point that the ecm starts to figure out whats what.
I'd say to try another ECM, what state r u in?
 
texas, its about 82 degrees when i started that day. did it again today so i lets it sit and cool off, then i tried about 5 min ago. this is after a good 2 hours after the first start. and no trouble at all :(

'08+ TPS Reset Procedure:

- Turn on the key.

- Set the kill switch to the run position.

- Don’t start the engine. Rotate the throttle from fully closed (gently forced closed) to fully open (gently held open), and then back again to closed (gently forced closed).

- Repeat 2 times for a total of 3 times. Hold each position (fully open, fully closed) for 1 full second.

- Turn the key off and on.
 
Honestly, they replaced so much stuff it was hardd to tell. The last fuel pump seemed to fix it, but not completely. Recntly replaced ECM (cracked) and it seems much better. common prob w the ulys, but probably not with a 12r. Hope this was some help, because HD seemed clueless to help me. Just threw parts at it (presumeably with some rhyme/reason) until it was gone. You should call HD cust service if you are going the dealer route.

Hey guy it seems to do what my 08+ XB12R used to do . Even the EBR ECM did it.Had to send it back and Erik and Michael figured it out. Yep my 08 XB12R was the Ginnie Pig for the NewerReFlash they still use today. Drops to low to idle at 1,100 RPMs The nstalls but not all the Time.??,from the short Video I just saw. Could be Cold start up enrichment= idle problems. The bike is bone stock right. The Exhaust servo under the Air Box, has it been tied back or unplugged? How about the Muffler you can't Tie it open for the cool sound it will make when that is done. If not check to see if it's working the Dealer had to replace mine. But the cel came on here and there. Then it wouldn't idle right. Not sure if thats your problem but you could start with a TPS reset 1st just to get it out the way. How is your Air Filter/ Paper one STOCK?? BTW do you still have the warranty of any sort still left on the Bike? The ECM and componets linked to the EPA has 18,000miles give or take 50miles warranty on EPA related parts of the Bikes. IF you haven't messed around with the Bike that much you may be able to get it upgraded with an ECM reflash with the newer Version Flash and ALSO the 2010 XB fan Run program. YES it MAY be Free if done correctly. Don't hold me to that just yet ok/!! Post me with some information so we can get you riding.*Jimi
 
im lost about what you are saying about tieing the exhaust valve back of not. are you saying do or DO NOT do it?
