I've done the search, but with no luck.
Has anyone attempted to do a dual front disc on a XB?

Why? It has more front brake than most people ever use.

I should have a build thread up in a few weeks. I'm running dual perimeter rotors and dual ztl2 calipers w/custom lines and radial master cylinder. I'm also doing a 280 tire/18x10 wheel in the stock swingarm.
I personally believe the XB factory brake system (even ztl2) is very lackluster in comparison to my R1 and went out to beef up the brake system in style.

Why? Because it would look great and stand out!

seems like the brakes would be so touchy you might go head over heals in a panic situation. Just my thoughts tho, I dont have it. IT WOULD LOOK SICK THO!!!

there was a bike on ebay that had ztl2s on both sides, it was posted on here somewhere

70% braking power up front with most bikes out there, but Buell may have changed that figure with the introduction of the current disc set up...
anyone got specs on the braking power of a Buell? distance/speed charts for rear brake only? front brake only? and both applied?

I don't think it would make much difference in useable power, You already have more brake power available than you can use without flipping over. one sided caliper and rotar is the whole point of the ztl system, just get some better brake pads and call it a day.

I agree with DMP. You won't use all of the braking power in the ZTL system The bike will flip before you will ever get close. But, it's your bike, and do what you want!

Can't argue with that, but the breaking power has never been an issue. I just like the look of the dual setup...

FYI, break does not equal brake
break = broken
brake = a device used to stop

read through your postings before you post it, if it's screwed up and you didn't catch it before it got posted, not to worry...look at the right, upper corner of your posting, you'll find this...[edit]...simply click on it and your post will appear in the message box. you can make the correction(s), then click below the message box, don't worry about it saying "Edit Post" just click it and your posting will re-post with the corrections made.......YOU HAVE TO DO THIS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT'S POSTED, IT'S A SHORT WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY... to make the correction(s) or you'll have to wait about a minute before you can post another message making the correction(s):D

Dual perimeter brakes would be pretty nice to see on the bikes. Honestly, it's got plenty of braking power but just seems to make sense to have the 2.

It would look cool dont get me wrong. The whole design thing goes out the window though. The ZTL brake system was designed to weight less and perform better than a dual disc "Jap" set up. But weight was the biggest factor in the design, "unsprung weight."

It was good from a design standpoint. However, it clearly did not live up to "outperforming a jap setup" as anyone will tell you. I'd much rather have more brake than I need then not enough in that crutial fraction of a second.

the biggest reason for it was to reduce the weight of the front wheel. without needing to transfer torsional load the spokes and hub can be made much smaller. the fact that the diameter of the brake grew so much means it only needed one rotor to be effective. reducing rotational mass is especially good, and with only one caliper it reduced unsprung weight even further.

if you're waiting for that, it's too late...will take your brain longer to tell your hand, fingers and muscles to react

according to that a suzuki marauder has the best brakes on the planet. stoping your bike depends more on your ability to control your bike at full brake power than how much actual power there is. In some cases (I bet this is one) having more brake power will actually make it harder to control and therefore stop. In this case you are hindered mostly by your short wheelbase, more power will not help.
now if your arguement is that they look cool and you just want them, than I can't argue with that.

JEEZ, look how small those calipers are, no wonder that bike needs 2 rotors. If you want to upgrade the brakes for the XB just get the bigger calipers that are used from the 1125. Buells already have much more braking power with the larger rotor, there really is no need for a second one unless they are only 1 or 2 pistons like those tiny ones in that picture on page 1.
The factor brakes are already enough to send you over the bars without trying too hard.

One rotor means less rotating weight.
I am 6'5 and 270lbs.. so i bet i am one of the bigger guys that rides a buell (i have a 07 1200xbs
that primiter brake *really* slows my big ass down in a hurry
Anything more for the riding i do (general hooliganism and commuting) would be over kill
If i dump that clutch right at the power band it will hold my wheel solid until i let go for or until the tire blows up a burn out.
:) thats all i need
