Does anyone have pics of the actual hardware in the ASB rivet eliminator kit or the OEM kit, all the pics I've found only show the screws. Curious to see what's being use as the retaining part of the hardware. I have several types of aircraft interior retainers that I know will do the job just fine, but I'd like to compare 'em anyway.

I used #8 but I think #10 would fit. Just find some nice stainless hardware, washers and a fiber lock nut. POC [smirk]

stainless is the only way to go...going to use this type of fastener

"U" TYPE (NAS 395)
Snaps over edge of panels or into center hole locations. Holds itself in place for blind assembly. "Floats" free for easy hole alignment.
I'll have to see if I've got some #10's, have lots of #6's and #8's and plenty of sheet metal screws.

I assume you are referring to the chin fairing. It's really not neccessary to nut plate it. You can assemble it prior to installing.

yes, the chin fairing...I also have the flat ones too, but the "U" types work better, nuts plates require drilling holes to rivet 'em in place and have to countersink the holes and use #40 countersunk rivets and since I don't have a hand squeezer, only the standard bucking bars, gun and sets, don't wanna take the chance of screwing up the plastics, so the before mentioned fasteners are best for the job.

I jb welded some t-nuts on the backside, with a screw and a nylon washer for mine.

Familiar with the different style of blind nut methods. Been an A&P since '81, IA since '86. Still wondering why you wouldn't just assemble it with nuts. Can't think of a reason to remove only a part of the chin fairing and not just the entire thing. [confused]

When you change the oil filter it is easier just to remove the brake side fairing instead of the whole thing.

And it is easier to just screw into a fixed nut then to hold a nut on the backside.

Screwed mine together with stainless bolts, flat washers, and nylock nuts. With my drummer ss all I have to take out is 4 screws to remove the whole chin fairings and that's a 1 miniute job at most.
