I currently have a jardine pipe but was wondering if a D&D is louder and by about how much kinda want to switch over to the D&D.

Never ran a jardine, but I have a D n D on my 07 xb12scg. Everyone says they are way too loud but I think they sound great on our bikes! I mean after a ride my ears aren't ringing and it doesn't hurt my ears during a ride. Idk, I have samson ground pounders on my 88cu deuce, running only one baffle so maybe I'm just used to loud pipes. But anyway I recommend a D n D if your wanting a nice, deep sound. Also "LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES".

I am in the middle of switching from a Jardine to a D&D and I have had them both on my bike and the D&D is definitely louder

It shouldn't be the amount of noise, as much as the most performance gain. For me it could sound like **** but if I get good gains I will run it.

Is 9+ hp without any tuning good enough?

d_adams - Much loss on the low end?

I had jardine for a bit first and now I run D&D on my XB9S. Both sound nice. The thing with Jardine is that over time you gonna lose some power due to blowing out the packing and it's a PITA to repack it. D&D is definitely louder, some say to the point where it becomes obnoxious. I like it's sound though. Gains in power are noticeable in the mid-range - exactly where you use it the most. You may look into dyno tune to get the best results and eliminate backfiring on deceleration.

No loss that I saw, but the dyno was sorta screwy on the stock run. 85 hp stock, 94 with the pipe, rode it all of 2 miles in between. It was on an xb12.

dadams' design it's pretty much what D&D is with bigger cans. I haven't seen D&D internals though. I bet it would be less expensive that people over D&D are charging. Looks good. Any sound clips?

Yeah, some on youtube. I'll post some later. This one is pretty loud with the 2.5” cores. The 2” core version is a bit milder.

Dyno run with the prototype pipe a few months ago. Yeah, it's loud. Totally kills the mic on the phone I did this one with in a couple of places.

D_Adams, how much would you charge to fab up another one of those pipes?? I am sure you would have a few buyers.

I build them quite a bit for the 1125's and have done several for XB's. I do multiple custom designs for both models.
This one is $599 in raw form, $678 polished, plus shipping.

but the dyno was sorta screwy on the stock run. 85 hp stock, 94 with the pipeyea a little off the my stock pipe was at 100 hp asb exhaust dyno the stock at 102 i think so if your is +9 over stock you would 109 hp wich would be outstanding

ASB's numbers were skewed a little I think and they even stated that the numbers were off at a later date. As I recall, the XB 12 was rated at 103 hp at the crank by Buell. Go back and review the data, how can it have almost the same power using the stock pipe from the baseline run?
At a roughly 15% loss through the transmission and final drive, 85 hp at the wheel is a LOT more realistic than what the dyno showed back then. If the dyno I used would have read 100 hp using the stock pipe, I would suspect that it was in dire need of being calibrated. My 1125 hit 122 hp on the same dyno (146 hp crank rated, less 16% for driveline loss) in stock trim, it hits about 138 or so now with EBR's standard calibration. It's supposed to make 143 according to EBR with the correct tune, although I think their bike might be a little stronger than mine was originally. That puts it in the ballpark of the full race system.
Either way, what I'm looking for is a percentage gain over where I started at. Going from 85 hp to 94 is about a 10% gain WITHOUT tuning it. I know for sure it could use it, but I don't have the bike any longer.
On my 1125, the gain was more like 15% or 16% after tuning with the pipe, which almost puts it right back at what it was rated at the crank originally, but the reading is at the wheel.

im pretty sure the xb were rwhp.mine stock at 2 diffrerent shops was at 100 hp then had the d&d put on wich was around 95 at the rear wheel both with the stock tune.i sure would like to know what yours would pull on a properly set up dyno.

That's what I'm saying. Same dyno, went from 85 to 94. Yours went down. Why?

went from stock pipe with stock tune to a d&d with stock tune it should have come down.d&d with custom tune is now at 102 hp did the open air box and it dropped 3 hp so i put the stock air box back on.everything i see and read stock xb12 with a stock map is going to be between 99 and 103 hp.i would like to see yours on a good dyno.because as much as i love my d&d i might need to change to a keda.since yours is similar to a d&d it should be at around 100 or better with the proper tune

D_adams-I was no means saying anything negative about your pipe 9 hp is an awesome gain. I was simpley repying to the initial post wherehe was trying to figure out which one is louder.

I had them side by side.... The D&D is slightly louder. In fact i had to wear ear plugs when i rde with it. Set off car alarms non stop.
