Has anyone added a voltmeter to their bike to monitor volts while riding? If so, how?

I love gizmos but this is the last one I would choose. In 30 years of riding I've never lost a charging system on the road. A few regulators and rectifiers in that time and many batteries but I could always tell by dim lights, jumpy tachs and hard starts.

I put the Shift-I shift light on mine and it does a voltage check at start up for the 1st 30sec-min.

Works pretty good as a shift light too.

Thanks. I'm having an issue with my battery, but I was thinking ahead to "what if" it was something else. figured it would be nice to know voltage en route.

Voltmeter is a waste of time and money adding to your bike. All it tells you if someone has stolen your battery, because even a dead battery will read 12V! The best bet is getting an Ammeter, that way you can see if the system is charging or discharging. I can't believe all of the auto industries waste our time and money with this needless accessory.

I've seen something like these in Sears Catalog they work well. And you can definetly see the Display at night. I added mine just a Stewart Warner Mechanical Volt meter(waterproofed)it first before installing, make sure to put a small fuse at least 7.5 or 15/amp just for protection most come with fuse kits & a relay but not always. When my Stator went out I knew a little ahead of time something was going on since I had a Guage on it. I have Oil/and Volts one one each side above the Left & right Scoops had to make the Brackets but looks good and functions well also. Post A pic when done.*If you have a Issue with your battery just pop it out and have it load tested just to be safe and check the Terminals and those Grounds.Ride Safe *Jimi
