Yes I was curious if anyone knew exactly how to remove the complete exhaust system of a XB9S? I am going to exhaust wrap the header and paint the muffler while it is off the bike.

if you see the slightest rust or wear issues id advise replacing them studs. they cost liek 2 bucks for a bag of them and you can do the ole double nut tric to get them out no problem. i good tight seal there keeps the heat in check adn we need all the heat help we can get. oh and yes "all hale the pb blaster".

Dang on second thought I might wrap the header while it is on the bike and just take the muffler off and paint it lol.

idk about that. if you get the nuts off without breaking them I wouldn't go looking for more trouble. you have a much higher chance of breaking them trying to get the steel stud out of the aluminum head. it would be ideal to replace the studs but i can tell you how not fun drilling out a stud is.

You will have a better outcome with removing the header IMO

agree with jake that it's faster and results in cleaner wrap with header removed but in all honesty i did mine on my firebolt with header on motor and it came out fine. remember to let your wrap material soak in warm water for 15 minutes or more before you begin the install. that seems to be the trick in getting it tight.

Titanium wrap is where its at. NO WATER NO MESS.
A job that I did with the help of the owner of the bike.

Thanks
The worst part is where the pipes meet next job I'm going to sawzall the pipes apart a little so I can get a couple more wraps down each pipe.
Me and army have wrapped his lightning that he used to have twice my bike once and this job on his Firebolt, we have had some practice.
Edit: After doing this job with titanium wrap I will never go back to the regular DEI wrap. The titanium doesn't suggest water and it wraps super tight. We used 2" x 50' on this wrap job and had maybe 1' unused.

U could actually wrap it tighter to get more of a overlap which would control heat even better and end up using more than 50feet. I've actually given thought to redoing it as I'll using the bike as a commuter in city traffic next year to help with the heat. bolt and I have it down to about a 10min process. Also I'd never use anything else other then the titanium wrap now. No mess, no bs, and it holds up much better so far.

hey kona i do understand what your talking about drilling a stud out... however as far as them studs go its not a matter of "if", its a matter of "when" they rust adn snap. if the stud doesnt easily come out with the double nut trick then you can put a heat gun on the exhaust hole adn heat the head up then spray pb on the stud only and the stud should come out no problem. if it doesnt then you might as well let it go adn wait for it to snap or if you have time goes ahead and do what you must to replace it. luckily he doesnt have this problem so im nto sure why i gto on the subject. open roads adn no blues all the way guys.

Holy crap! you used a lot of wrap on that header. I just did mine with the same stuff but only used 25 feet.http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/5279_20111002043417_L.jpg
