Is there any way of replacing the main wiring harness without tearing the whole bike apart?

you'll be better off doing an engine rotation if you're going to replace it without taking the frame off. you'll want to be careful when you take off the harness from the frame. if you break one of the holders it's going to be a pain

I'm hoping I won't have to replace it. My brake lights stopped working. So I went with the basics, bulb, fuse, switch at the brakes, and finally tearing apart the light housing to see if the contacts were still good. Everything was good. Then I checked the continuity over the whole thing from the front brakes and didn't have any. So I checked the short rear piece of wiring for the tail lamp and turn signals and everything was good. All I can figure is that somewhere in the bundle of wire between the frame and motor something has been damaged. And it looks like a nightmare to get to.

What year bike?

Also, Did you notice if the brake light works with the rear brake and not with the front or vice versa or not at all?

check to see if it's not making a ground to complete the circuit. basically put the positive in the positive wired with a test light and ground it to the frame somewhere

Good call on checking it through the frame. It is shorted. Any ideas on a quick and easy way to find the problem?

I can't come up with anything right now but I'll try to think of something. I just remember I had to make new grounds for my lights up front. I'll look at the diagram to figure out something for the back. only problem I had with the brake was a broken wire off of the rear brake master cylinder so I haven't had to go too in depth.
