right now i'm open to the xb12scg too. i'm a new rider. is the 12 too much for me?

Not at all. A lot of new riders start on 12s. Because of the extra tourqe it makes them very easy to ride. But overall a 12 doesnt really a large difference over a 9 just the extra tq.

Also forgot to mention since the scg is the lower model its much easier to learn balancing on at slow speeds. makes a huge difference. I learned on a sv650 with clip ons. I was super leaned over and it was hard to properly balance at slow speeds at first until I learned.

My wife learned on an XB12Scg and 16 year old brother in law too. It is not too much bike if you respect it.
