a customer of mine in australia who is a vintage jap bike collector just bought a 2006 lightning long with approx. 12,000 miles on it. according to him he only put 100 or so miles on it and motor went south. took to local dealer and after diagnostics, dealer told him rear cylinder is dead...no compression. i am assuming they took proper compression test. am trying via email to help him. any thoughts on what the problem might be? he said no weird noises or other nonsense prior to the problem surfacing, bike was regularly serviced according to previous owner. assuming dealer tested correctly and rear cylinder has no compression, any guesses? bad lifter, bad cam, stuck valve, what? thanks guys as always.

Faulty engine temp sensor. I think if the rear gets too hot It's supposed to run only on the front. I read that somewhere. Not entirely sure if It's true.

thanks guys. i think wolfo was referring to the ecm cutting out rear cyl. spark if too hot, something on that order. this guy might just suffer from ring oil washdown as steve mentioned. i emailed him with the help and i'll see how he proceeds. thanks again.
